Apple launches leasing program with monthly payments for iPhones, iPads and Macs

Apple has launched Apple Upgrade, a hardware leasing programme allowing US customers to make interest-free monthly payments for iPhones, iPads, Macs and Apple Watches through Klarna. The programme offers 12- or 24-month leases for phones and watches, and 24- or 36-month leases for computers and tablets. Customers do not own devices after completing payments. For example, the iPhone 17 Pro costs $1,099 outright or $31.99 monthly over 24 months, totalling $767.76 in lease payments. At lease end, customers can return the device and upgrade, return without upgrading, or pay a residual value fee to keep it. Technology attorney Kirk Sigmon noted the psychological appeal of lower monthly payments but warned consumers risk accumulating too many recurring obligations alongside existing subscriptions.

Jim Cramer calls Apple under Tim Cook 'greatest consumer-based enterprise in history

Jim Cramer described Tim Cook's tenure at Apple as building "the greatest consumer-based enterprise in history" during a recent Mad Money episode. Cook, who succeeded Steve Jobs in 2011, is stepping down in September to become executive chairman, with hardware engineering chief John Ternus taking over as CEO. Cramer argued that Apple achieved premium valuations typically reserved for enterprise software companies through emotional attachment rather than contractual obligations. Under Cook's leadership, Apple's active device base grew to over 2.5 billion units, driving recurring revenue through services like iCloud, App Store, and Apple Music. In Q3 fiscal 2026, Apple posted revenue of $109.42 billion, beating analyst expectations of $108.65 billion, with earnings per share of $2.02 versus the $1.89 consensus estimate.

Apple stock jumps 1.4% as analyst sets $400 target on potential Nvidia AI partnership

Apple shares rose 1.4% to $311.18 after Rothschild & Co Redburn set a $400 price target, suggesting 29% upside. The bullish outlook centres on a potential shift in Apple's AI strategy that could involve using Nvidia's open models instead of relying heavily on Alphabet's Gemini technology. Apple's fiscal third-quarter results showed strong momentum, with revenue climbing 16% to $109.4 billion and earnings jumping 29% to $2.02 per share. Gross margin expanded to 50.1%, whilst Services generated $30.7 billion in revenue. However, no Nvidia partnership has been confirmed. The stock trades about 10% above its estimated fair value of $283.52, meaning investors are already pricing in AI-driven growth. Whether Apple can convert AI enthusiasm into an actual iPhone upgrade cycle remains the key question.

Apple settles German antitrust probe with App Tracking Transparency changes

Apple has resolved a German antitrust investigation by agreeing to modify how iPhone and iPad users consent to data sharing for personalised advertising. Germany's Bundeskartellamt made Apple's commitments under its App Tracking Transparency framework legally binding, requiring implementation within four months and independent monitoring for seven years. The changes aim to make consent prompts more comparable between Apple's services and third-party developers. Apple will extend the modifications to nearly all EU countries. The decision follows France's €150 million fine in March 2025 and Italy's €98.6 million penalty over similar issues. Services revenue, which includes advertising, reached $30.7 billion in fiscal Q3, up 12% year-over-year, whilst Europe generated $29.4 billion in quarterly sales, up 22%.

Apple may break September iPhone launch ritual as chip shortages push iPhone 18 Pro ahead of standard model

Apple is reportedly planning to break nearly two decades of tradition by delaying its standard iPhone 18 launch to early 2027 whilst releasing the higher-priced iPhone 18 Pro series this autumn. The move follows memory and chip shortages forcing electronics makers to prioritise devices with better margins. The shift could prove financially strategic for Apple. iPhone revenue reached a record $54.25 billion in the latest quarter, up 21.7% year-over-year, with total company revenue rising 16% to $109.4 billion. However, Apple predicted slower growth of 9%–11% for the September quarter, below Wall Street's 12% forecast, citing "very significant" supply constraints. The news triggered a selloff threatening nearly $500 billion in market value. Global smartphone sales fell 11% in the second quarter as memory shortages drove up prices and dampened demand.
