  • At least 5 years of experience with aluminum and/or magnesium high-pressure die casting, preferably in the automotive field.
  • Proficiency in 2D drawing, 3D computer-aided design, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, geometric and statistical stack-ups, and manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of production tool design and aluminum material grades and properties.
  • Ability to provide design-for-manufacturing support to guide product engineers during advanced engineering and design phases.
  • Strong understanding of how high-pressure die casting process conditions, including die temperature, die and tip lubricant application, and shot profile, affect part properties.
  • Experience transitioning products from concept to production.
  • Experience using statistical process control and root cause analysis in a high-pressure die casting manufacturing plant.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and comprehend detailed technical drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to create supporting reports using PowerPoint and present information and respond to questions from managers, suppliers, and customers.
  • Availability to support emergency breakdowns, including occasional after-hours and weekend calls.
  • Good comprehension of North American Die Casting Association standards, casting tolerances, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.

Responsibilities

  • Develop high-pressure die-cast manufacturing process parameters for aluminum castings, including PQ2, gate velocity, tonnage, metal pressure, and plunger diameter.
  • Interface with design personnel during development to suggest designs that improve efficiency and reduce cost, and develop cost-reduction ideas.
  • Support die designs, sample setups, and trial evaluations, including replacement dies and new model dies.
  • Study quality issues to determine root causes, and approve and confirm countermeasures.
  • Introduce measures to maintain high standards and reliable process conditions in a highly automated, high-pressure die-casting process.
  • Assist with casting parameters to reduce rejects and achieve daily production targets.
  • Identify and implement Kaizen safety initiatives, and support departmental layered process audits and safety audits.
  • Ensure procedures are followed during die changes for successful process startup.
  • Interface with tooling engineers to review tooling design and ensure company standards for die-cast and trim dies.
  • Analyze casting simulations using MAGMA or equivalent software.
  • Troubleshoot quality issues on die-casting machines with process technicians.
  • Support cell design with the manufacturing engineer to ensure correct process flow.
  • Work with suppliers to design dedicated spray manifolds for new projects.
  • Monitor die-cast performance.
  • Support emergency breakdowns, including occasional after-hours and weekend calls.
  • Train and develop process technicians and other engineers as required.
  • Support startup and process development for new casting programs.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing professional networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Contribute to team efforts by completing related work.
  • Adhere to IATF/TS 16949 and applicable customer standards.
  • Provide daily product-design task leadership and distribute work according to project requirements and resources.

Desired Qualifications
