Requirements
  • A completed or nearly complete bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Working proficiency in SolidWorks, including editing existing models and updating dimensions and sizing.
  • Hands-on experience with FDM and SLA 3D printing, including slicing software, printer operation, and post-processing.
  • Comfort with precision hand-assembly of small mechanical and electromechanical parts, including fasteners, adhesives, connectors, and light wiring.
  • Strong attention to detail and disciplined documentation.
  • Comfort interacting directly with study participants in a professional, welcoming, and reassuring manner.
  • Strong written communication skills for drafting standard operating procedures, test plans, and reports.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a workbench for extended periods, lift or carry up to 15 pounds, operate hand tools, 3D printers, and shop equipment, and work in close physical proximity to study participants during fittings, measurements, and scans.
Responsibilities
  • Update and resize 3D models, such as SolidWorks models, to fit a range of sizes and configurations using measurement data and fit feedback.
  • 3D print components on FDM and SLA printers, including slicing, print setup, and post-processing such as support removal, curing, and cleanup.
  • Fabricate and machine components using standard shop tools, including hand tools, a drill press, sanding and filing tools, adhesives, and fasteners.
  • Assemble printed and fabricated components into complete assemblies, integrating sensors, wiring, and mechanical hardware.
  • Validate assembled devices on the benchtop test system by following established test protocols.
  • Collect, organize, and log device performance data for engineering review.
  • Maintain build and test records, including build logs, deviations, and part traceability, in accordance with design-control documentation practices.
  • Track component inventory and consumables, including filament, resin, fasteners, and sensors, and flag reorder needs.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, software, and electrical engineers to troubleshoot fit, assembly, and performance issues and support root-cause investigations of build defects.
  • Design and fabricate test fixtures for repeatable mechanical, electrical, and functional testing of devices and subassemblies.
  • Execute test protocols and test plans across benchtop, functional, and environmental testing, accurately recording setup conditions, procedures, and observations.
  • Analyze and report test data and summarize findings for engineering review.

Epia Neuro develops neural technologies to restore function for people with neurological conditions, focusing on post-stroke motor impairment. Its lead platform uses a minimally invasive skull-placed read/write brain–computer interface paired with AI-powered software to translate neural intent into action, fusing neural signals with data from external sensors to drive assistive devices like a grip-assist glove. The system is implanted in under an hour, is wirelessly rechargeable, and modular to allow future upgrades without additional surgery, offering an integrated hardware and software solution. The company aims to restore daily independence for stroke survivors and expand to cognitive decline and other neurological disorders, targeting a multi-billion-dollar market.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • April 2, 2026 launch targeted stroke and cognitive decline, broadening eventual revenue.
  • Astellas-backed iota heritage reduces technical novelty risk and speeds development.
  • Wirelessly rechargeable, modular hardware supports upgrades without repeat surgery, improving patient and payer economics.

What critics are saying

  • First-human demos later in 2026 leave no human efficacy data today.
  • February 2027 FDA submission demands flawless safety; one adverse event kills momentum.
  • Neuralink, Synchron, and Blackrock outspend Epia, risking talent, capital, and clinician attention.

What makes Epia Neuro unique

  • Michel Maharbiz's iota lineage gives Epia proven ultrasonic implant know-how.
  • April 2026 launch centers on a less-invasive, under-an-hour cranial implant.
  • Lenox Hill Hospital ties give Epia a credible first-human clinical pathway.
