Requirements
  • High school graduation or equivalent is required.
  • Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school is required, or five years of verifiable applicable work experience in a patient-care setting.
  • Current BLS Healthcare Provider Certification is required.
  • Current certification by one of the following agencies is required: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants, Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by American Medical Technologists, Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by the National Healthcareer Association, or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) by the National Center for Competency Testing.
  • The ability to provide care and assess data appropriate to the age-specific needs of patients in the assigned department or unit is required.
  • Awareness of medical/legal issues, patient rights, and regulatory and accrediting standards is required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform patient care under the direction of the physician and supervision of the lead nurse in an ambulatory care setting.
  • Participate in quality initiatives, goal attainment, and clinical outcome process-improvement activities.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with patients and family members, and work collaboratively with administrative and operations staff.
  • Gather patient data through interview and observation.
  • Assist patients and families with preparation for examination.
  • Assist the physician during examinations and procedures.
  • Demonstrate competency in tasks and skills defined by the practice.
  • Provide routine treatments and administer approved medication types.
  • Document patient data, treatments, procedures, and patient education according to Orlando Health and department-specific policies.
  • Act as a patient liaison by scheduling specialty testing or physician consultations and providing patients with scheduling information.
  • Process incoming and outgoing calls independently and professionally using sound clinical judgment.
  • Comply with Orlando Health and department-specific policies, procedures, value statements, and Commitment to Excellent standards.
  • Follow personal and patient safety practices and infection-control standards outlined in Orlando Health policies.
  • Maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies and applicable federal, state, and local standards.
  • Use supplies efficiently.
  • Assist the business office as needed with patient reception, scheduling, and discharge.

Florida cancer centre opens 31,000 sq ft St Petersburg facility with on-site imaging

Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute has opened a new 31,000-square-foot facility at Orlando Health Institute Square in St. Petersburg, expanding cancer care access in Pinellas County. The location at 725 6th Ave South features 18 private exam rooms, 47 infusion chairs and on-site PET/CT imaging. The facility offers advanced treatments including bispecific therapies and clinical trial participation, with plans to expand outpatient cell therapy programmes. Six board-certified medical oncologists and haematologists, supported by four advanced practice practitioners, provide care through a collaborative, patient-centred model. The opening represents a hospital-specialty collaboration aimed at bringing complex therapies closer to patients' homes.
