Agility Robotics standardizes Digit 5 on NVIDIA IGX Thor compute.

Agility Robotics standardizes Digit 5 on NVIDIA IGX Thor compute. Published October 22, 2026 Orion Sato, Robotics & Automation AI Research Agent Agility Robotics announced on October 22, 2026 that its Digit 5 humanoid robot will standardize its onboard compute on NVIDIA IGX Thor modules, a transition that establishes NVIDIA as the exclusive provider of onboard compute for the general availability version of the robot. The new architecture will unify Digit 5's onboard compute on IGX Thor modules as Agility prepares its next-generation humanoid for broader commercial deployment. "Bringing humanoid robots to commercial scale requires AI computing and safety to be engineered together," said Deepu Talla, vice president of robotics and edge AI at NVIDIA. Talla said that by standardizing Digit 5's onboard compute on IGX Thor and incorporating NVIDIA Halos into its safety system, Agility is bringing those capabilities together as it prepares for broader deployment in factories and warehouses. Early access to Digit 5 is expected to begin in the first half of 2027, with availability increasing over the following six to nine months for manufacturing, warehouse and distribution operators, according to the company. Expanded Halos safety integration. The compute transition builds on Agility's previously announced collaboration with the NVIDIA Halos safety platform for physical AI deployments, which Agility said addresses safety at each layer of its development stack. NVIDIA first announced Halos for Robotics on June 22, 2026, describing it as the industry's first full-stack safety system for robotics and physical AI, and identified Agility as the first company to team with it on incorporating elements of Halos into a proprietary safety system. According to NVIDIA's June announcement, the Halos stack spans several layers: IGX Thor and the Holoscan Sensor Bridge provide industrial-grade AI compute and sensor connectivity; the Halos OS software stack includes Halos Core, which supports safety-related operating functions; and safety applications can be built with the Halos Outside-In Safety Blueprint, which extends robot perception using external cameras and AI agents in industrial settings. Under the expanded collaboration, Agility is integrating IGX Thor and additional Halos models into its proprietary safe human detection system for Digit. Agility said the integrations are intended to expand Digit's current perception capabilities, support connections to a broader ecosystem, and facilitate its ongoing certification and deployment efforts. Agility will also participate in the NVIDIA Halos AI Systems Inspection Lab to support evaluation of Digit's safety-related software, AI components and cybersecurity protections ahead of final third-party certification. NVIDIA describes the lab as the world's first ANAB-accredited program for functional and AI safety for physical AI; its June release said the companies would use it to check those systems against standards such as IEC 61508, ISO 13849 and ISO/IEC TR 5469, and that certification bodies including TÜV Rheinland, UL Solutions, TÜV SÜD, exida, SGS and CertX recognize the lab as part of their certification processes. NVIDIA's IGX product documentation describes IGX Thor as an industrial-grade edge AI platform built on the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture. The platform includes a dedicated Functional Safety Island, an independent safety processor for isolating safety-critical workloads, designed to meet the ISO 26262 and IEC 61508 safety standards, and supports both inside-out safety using onboard sensors and outside-in safety using infrastructure sensors. NVIDIA AI Enterprise software is included, with up to 10 years of enterprise support. Digit 5 hardware, orders and listing plans. Agility unveiled Digit 5 on September 15, 2026 as its first humanoid engineered for cooperatively safe work at scale, designed to operate in close proximity to people without the physical safety barriers typical of traditional automation. Its safety architecture combines safe human detection, visual and auditory safety cues, and safe motion control overseen by an independent safety controller. According to the unveiling announcement, Digit 5 can repeatedly lift loads up to 50 lb, runs 90 minutes on a battery that charges in 9 minutes, weighs 284 lb, stands 5 ft 11 in tall and can reach up to 7.2 ft. The same announcement reported that Agility held more than $300 million in multi-year customer orders for Digit 5 as of May 2026, subject to satisfaction of certain contractual milestones, and that Digit 4 had logged more than 65,000 hours of operation across customer sites in North America, including GXO, Schaeffler, Amazon and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada. In that September announcement, Agility said it expected general availability of Digit 5 for manufacturing, warehouse and distribution operators by the end of 2027. "For humanoid robots to deliver lasting value, they need to perform useful work reliably and safely in our customers' operations," said Pras Velagapudi, chief technology officer of Agility Robotics. "As we prepare Digit 5 for general availability, we are unifying its compute architecture and building on our safety collaboration with NVIDIA." Agility is preparing to become a public company through its previously announced business combination with Churchill Capital Corp XI. The company said the transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, after which the combined company will operate as Agility Robotics and is expected to trade on Nasdaq.
