Requirements
  • Deep Product Pragmatism: You have a bias toward shipping. You understand that a working prototype in a user's hands is worth infinitely more than perfect code on your local machine.
  • Technical Excellence: You bring battle-hardened experience with React and Next.js, backed by strong backend skills in Node.js or Python. You know your way around microservices and cloud-native infrastructure.
  • A Drive to Own It: You are comfortable working in ambiguity. You don't wait for a ticket to be defined; you see the goal, grab the necessary API keys, and build the solution.
  • AI Fluency: You have hands-on experience or a deep curiosity for APIs, MCPs, LLMs, and vector databases. You understand the unique constraints of building with non-deterministic models.
  • Design Sensibility: You care deeply about how things look and feel. You understand that in consumer tech, the quality of the animation is just as important as the quality of the algorithm.
  • Cross-Platform Mindset: You can think outside the browser, understanding how web technologies can drive experiences on mobile and embedded systems.
  • Curiosity: You are constantly playing with new tools (RAG systems, agents) not because you have to, but because you want to see what they can do.
Responsibilities
  • Rapidly prototype and ship novel AI interfaces—from chat and voice to multi-modal interactions—that define the next generation of the Nothing OS experience.
  • Translate wild, experimental concepts into robust, production-grade full-stack applications using Next.js, React, and Node/Python.
  • Optimise the "feel" of AI; you will obsess over latency, real-time performance, and the micro-interactions that make a digital assistant feel responsive and human.
  • Define and architect the underlying patterns and frameworks that power our AI service layer, ensuring our experimental code can scale to a global user base.
  • Work directly with hardware and OS teams to blur the lines between web, mobile, and embedded surfaces, creating a seamless continuity across devices.
  • Collaborate with Product Designers to invent entirely new interaction models, moving beyond the traditional screen-tap paradigm.
  • Manage your own deployment pipelines and infrastructure choices, ensuring we maintain a high velocity of shipping without breaking production.

Nothing Technology Limited designs and sells consumer electronics such as smartphones, wireless earbuds, audio devices, and smartwatches through direct-to-consumer channels and retail partners. Its devices run Nothing OS, a customized Android-based software, and use a distinctive design language that can include transparent hardware and features like the Glyph Interface on phones. The company differentiates itself with a design-led aesthetic, a community-funded investment model, and a sub-brand for affordable products (CMF by Nothing) created to reach more price-sensitive customers. Its goal is to become a design-focused challenger in consumer tech by expanding its ecosystem of devices and software under Nothing OS and growing both sales and brand adoption.

Nothing founder warns memory chip prices double as AI giants drive up gadget costs

Nothing founder Carl Pei has warned that Britons face higher gadget prices due to a global microchip shortage driven by AI companies. The UK-headquartered phone maker, valued at $1.3 billion, has seen memory chip costs more than double over the past year. Memory chips now account for 40% of Nothing's phone manufacturing costs, up from 15% previously. Silicon Valley giants have been absorbing chip production capacity for AI applications, pushing up prices across the consumer electronics industry. Ram chip contract prices nearly doubled in the first quarter, rising as much as 95%, according to TrendForce. Founded in 2020, Nothing has raised over $450 million from investors, including $200 million last year. The company announced its latest handsets, the Phone (4a) starting at £349 and Phone (4a) Pro at £499.

Nothing launches Phone (4a) series with enhanced Glyph lights, new colours, and $464 starting price

London-based smartphone maker Nothing has launched two mid-range devices, the Phone (4a) and Phone (4a) Pro, alongside new headphones, as it attempts to differentiate itself in what CEO Carl Pei calls an increasingly "boring" market. The phones introduce brighter colour options including pink and blue, whilst retaining Nothing's transparent design and upgraded Glyph lighting system. The Phone (4a) features a 6.78-inch display and Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor, whilst the Pro model offers a 6.83-inch screen with 144Hz refresh rate and Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chipset. Both devices include 50MP periscope telephoto cameras and 5,400mAh batteries with 50W fast charging. The Phone (4a) starts at £349, whilst the Pro model retails from £499. Pei said Nothing aims to become IPO-ready by 2028.

Nothing launches Phone (4a) and Phone (4a) Pro, but only $499 Pro model coming to US

Nothing has announced the Phone (4a) and Phone (4a) Pro at a London event, but only the Pro model will be sold in the US. The company cited expected market performance for its decision to limit US availability. The Phone (4a) costs £349 and launches 13 March, whilst the Phone (4a) Pro starts at $499 and launches exclusively through Amazon on 27 March, matching Google's Pixel 10a pricing. Nothing remains without US carrier partnerships, which typically drive American smartphone sales. The Phone (4a) Pro features a redesigned camera module with harder, more wear-resistant glass and retains Nothing's distinctive Glyph Matrix design. Nothing is expanding retail presence globally with new stores planned for Tokyo and New York City. The company also unveiled the Headphone (a) at $199.

Nothing opens first India store in Bengaluru, eyes Tokyo and New York expansion

Nothing, the Tiger Global-backed hardware company, has opened its first retail store in India, its largest market. The two-storey store is located in Bengaluru, where a significant portion of Nothing's Indian userbase is concentrated. The store showcases products from both Nothing and its budget brand CMF, which is headquartered in India through a joint venture with local manufacturer Optiemus. Customers can purchase hardware and merchandise, with select items available for customisation. The space features factory-inspired design elements, including a production line display and phone testing equipment. India represents Nothing's strongest market, with over 2% smartphone market share. The company recorded 85% year-over-year shipment growth in Q2 2025, making it the country's fastest-growing brand. Nothing plans additional stores in Tokyo and New York but hasn't announced opening dates.
