Medical Lab Technician
About the job
- Graduate from an approved school of medical laboratory technician or have an associate degree in a related field.
- Perform moderately complex general laboratory testing in the licensed area under the direction of a Medical Technologist.
- Perform and report routine laboratory testing according to established policies and procedures and within established timeframes.
- Verify results and quality control data for accuracy and reliability.
- Perform, evaluate, and document quality control, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Use computer systems for ordering, resulting, and inquiry functions.
- Prepare and use reagents and supplies properly.
- Communicate critical results to the patient caregiver.
- Report unusual findings to the immediate supervisor.
- Report work activities and pending work to the oncoming technologist.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance consistent with applicable policies and standards.
- Maintain compliance with Baptist Health policies and procedures.
- Perform supply or reagent ordering and preparation, operate minor instrumentation, complete projects, or provide teaching and training under supervision.
- Perform specimen collection, receiving, and processing procedures as required.
- Answer the telephone and greet guests in the department.
- Maintain current job knowledge to instruct students or other personnel effectively.
- Participate in the laboratory quality improvement program, including performance and evaluation of key quality indicators.
- Follow policies and procedures to meet regulatory and accrediting agency requirements.
- Practice infection control and safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient records and hospital and departmental matters.
- Perform other duties as directed under the supervision of a Medical Technologist or Team Leader.
