Requirements
  • State teacher licensure or certification with appropriate endorsements.
  • A bachelor's degree with subject-area emphasis and/or the coursework or experience necessary to be deemed highly qualified for the grade and subjects taught; non-certified applicants with a degree in the subject area may be considered if they complete a prescribed plan of action to become highly qualified.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in a teaching or tutoring capacity acquired through prior tutoring, teaching, or other education-related experience.
  • Evidence of successful experience in student and parent relations.
Responsibilities
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning, develop and enforce classroom behavior procedures, and collaborate on school-wide behavior management systems.
  • Plan programs of study that meet individual student needs and goals; establish lesson and unit objectives; and align planned, delivered, and assessed lessons with state and school-wide curriculum standards.
  • Develop lesson plans for scheduled review and feedback, work with the instructional coach to improve instruction, and participate in curriculum analysis and planning to maintain alignment with state standards.
  • Collaborate with special education staff to implement an inclusive approach, participate in child study teams or individualized education planning, implement accommodations and modifications in student individualized education programs, and seek support services guidance as needed.
  • Collaborate with staff to implement grant-funded programming for students with special education, at-risk, limited English proficiency, and other needs to support grade-level proficiency.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records, protect the confidentiality of student records and information, and complete documentation required for regulatory compliance.
  • Communicate with parents, be available outside normal hours, encourage parent participation in learning experiences, and provide regular updates on student performance.
  • Maintain professional competence through conferences, mentoring, professional organizations, continuing coursework, and completion of requirements needed to maintain teaching credentials and highly qualified status.
  • Inform the school leader of needed instructional resources and participate actively in grade-level, school-wide planning, school improvement, and other focus teams.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities such as coaching, clubs, student government, tutoring, or enrichment activities as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
