Requirements
  • A PhD or MSc with equivalent experience in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or a related field, with demonstrated hands-on work in superconducting qubits or quantum control.
  • Experience operating dilution refrigerators and cryogenic measurement setups, with familiarity with on-premise hardware control environments and secure deployment practices.
  • Familiarity with control electronics for quantum systems, including vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, arbitrary waveform generators, and microwave sources.
  • Proficiency in Python for experiment control and data analysis, with familiarity with scientific computing and version control using Git.
  • Bilingual proficiency in French and English.
  • Ability to lead technical problem-solving and project execution, understand quantum-computing systems at a systems level, and work across teams.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct cryogenic measurements of superconducting devices, including spectroscopy, readout characterization, qubit control, and performance monitoring.
  • Compare measured device performance to simulation predictions, refine device models, and adjust design rules accordingly.
  • Own the calibration lifecycle for superconducting qubits and couplers, including spectroscopy and assignment, pulse shaping, flux biasing, two-qubit gate tune-ups, automated calibration sequences, benchmarking, and drift mitigation.
  • Develop automation by creating robust calibration graphs and playbooks and integrating them with control stacks and experiment orchestration to enable hands-off routine calibrations and health dashboards.
  • Analyze performance regressions and design controlled experiments to attribute loss channels such as materials, packaging, crosstalk, and control pulses; propose corrective actions with hardware and software stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with research and development, nanofabrication, and engineering teams to align hardware development with system-level goals.
  • Prepare detailed technical documentation and design reports and contribute to roadmap planning.

Anyon Systems secures C$23M to develop fault-tolerant quantum computer in Canada

Anyon Systems, a Montreal-based quantum computing company, has secured $23 million CAD through Canada's Quantum Champions Program to advance development of a fault-tolerant quantum computer. The funding will accelerate core technology development needed to transition from demonstrations to practical, scalable quantum machines. Founded in 2014, Anyon delivered Canada's first gate-based quantum computer, Yukon, to Defence Research and Development Canada in 2021. The company designs and manufactures all major subsystems in-house, including superconducting qubit processors, cryogenic systems and control electronics. Founder and CEO Dr Alireza Yazdi emphasised that in-house control over the hardware stack enables faster innovation and ensures Canada maintains sovereign capabilities in this strategically important field. Anyon recently became an anchor partner at C2MI's upcoming quantum nanofabrication facility.
