About the company

Cerula Care provides virtual behavioral health services tailored for cancer patients by partnering with oncology practices and processing the billing to create a new, no-cost revenue stream for the practice. A virtual-first care team, including psycho-oncologists, health coaches, and care managers, is assigned after an oncologist referral to assess patients, create personalized care plans, and deliver counseling, symptom management, and medication guidance, with psychiatrists giving recommendations to oncologists. It differentiates itself by embedding behavioral health into oncology teams and handling reimbursement, enabling collaborative psycho-oncology care for a large unmet patient population. The company aims to improve cancer care outcomes while helping partner practices grow through accessible mental health support and expanded revenue.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Cerula Care's February 2025 seed round from Esplanade, BrightEdge, and Amplify funded expansion.
  • Virtual care fits oncology practices, adding reimbursement without extra site overhead.
  • 2026 website copy emphasizes Medicaid and BIPOC equity, widening payer and employer demand.

What critics are saying

  • Cerula Care depends on oncology referrals; any major partner switch chokes volume.
  • Insurance reimbursement drives revenue; payer denials or coding scrutiny crush margins quickly.
  • If oncology systems internalize behavioral health, Cerula loses distribution and becomes irrelevant.

What makes Cerula Care unique

  • Cerula Care owns oncology-specific collaborative care, not generic teletherapy.
  • Its 2026 program reached 850 enrolled patients across Virginia Oncology Associates.
  • Peer-reviewed 2026 breast-cancer data showed lower PHQ-9, GAD-7, and better adherence.
