Requirements
  • The employee must complete an approved Medical Assistant program and hold a Certificate of Completion.
  • The employee must be Medical Assistant Certified or hold an MA-Interim License and pass the examination within the 90-day probationary period.
  • The employee must obtain Basic Life Support CPR certification within 90 days of hire and maintain it throughout employment.
  • The employee must have a current Medical Assistant Certified license issued by the Washington State Department of Health, or an MA-Interim License as specified in the certification requirements.
  • The employee must be able to provide age-appropriate care and understand growth and development across the lifespan.
  • The employee must identify age-specific patient needs and clinical measures, follow clinical guidelines and protocols, and document care in the Electronic Health Record.
  • The employee must demonstrate proficiency in the nursing parameters of the Electronic Health Record and Practice Management Application programs.
  • The employee must calculate medical dosages, analyze and present data for reports, and use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • The employee must learn and become proficient in SharePoint, Arcadia, OneHealth Portal, HealthPlanFinder, Electronic Health Records, EKG monitors, retinal cameras, and other technical resources as needed.
  • The employee must maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all HIPAA regulations.
  • The employee must follow infection-control, standard-precaution, medication-storage, quality-control, and biohazardous-waste procedures.
  • The employee must demonstrate clear and concise written and verbal communication and interact sensitively with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • The employee must be able to perform the essential duties accurately and on time and meet the physical demands of the position, including standing, walking, handling materials, and lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Responsibilities
  • Review patient Electronic Health Records, track and document clinical quality measures and outcomes, and address care gaps for patients.
  • Coordinate and process internal and external patient referrals in accordance with established protocols, working with Referral Coordinators when applicable.
  • Assist providers with an average of 18 to 21 patients per day, depending on provider type.
  • Prepare for and participate in Care Team Huddles, collecting clinic forms, quality measures, laboratory and X-ray reports, medication confirmations, and other information needed for patient visits.
  • Prepare patients for visits by obtaining subjective information and vital signs.
  • Document relevant patient information, care provided, and processes in accordance with organizational protocols.
  • Prepare examination and procedure rooms by stocking supplies and disinfecting them according to protocol.
  • Administer intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injections, as well as oral, rectal, and inhaled medication ordered by the provider.
  • Document medication administration and maintain and reconcile medication and immunization records.
  • Assist providers with gynecological examinations, incision and drainage procedures, and other minor procedures.
  • Perform venipuncture, assist with laboratory tests and results, and obtain patient notes and records from hospitals and other provider offices.
  • Perform quality-improvement audits, participate in organizational committees, and provide shadowing opportunities for new staff when assigned.
  • Assist Nursing and Medical Assistant Supervisors with implementing pod and patient-flow systems to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Complete point-of-care referrals, provide required information to specialists, and inform patients about specialty referrals.
  • Communicate provider and patient-flow delays to front-desk staff, the supervisor, and patients.
  • Respond to referred clinical phone calls within one business day.
  • Assist with ordering department supplies and pharmacy requests.
  • Maintain medication storage, dispensing, waste, and quality-control logs and report noncompliance to the supervisor or manager.
  • Use the AIDET customer-service model and escort patients to and from treatment rooms.
  • Provide services according to schedule, close chart notes within 24 hours, and support patient enrollment in Follow My Health.
  • Attend staff meetings and in-service training.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bilingual English and Spanish communication skills.
  • Ambulatory care experience.
  • Previous Family Medicine experience.
  • Ability to speak and interpret Spanish.
