Requirements
- At least 2 years of experience as a Low Voltage Cable Technician in industrial or commercial spaces of 1 million to 5 million square feet.
- At least 5 years of experience as a Lead or Foreman in commercial environments.
- Experience with CAT6 cabling, fiber optic systems, 24-volt systems, and 70-volt paging systems.
- Experience with CCTV, fire, security, and alarm systems is preferred.
- Experience installing audio/visual systems, point-of-sale systems, televisions or monitors, and media players is preferred.
- Industry-specific certifications such as BICSI, NEC, TIA/EIA, ICT, CCTT, CNCI, DCI, FOI, FOT, or TECH are preferred.
- Willingness to work on-call, day, night, or weekend shifts as required by projects.
- Experience reading blueprints and site maps.
- Experience with conduit installation is preferred.
- Knowledge of multiple termination types for multimode and single-mode fibers.
- Knowledge of closeouts and MDF, IDF, and MCIC environments.
- Ability to work in cramped spaces.
- Ability to operate a boom or scissor lift and work at heights exceeding 65 feet.
- Ability to identify individual colors and apply industry color codes.
- Possession of basic telecommunication tools, personal protective equipment, and reliable transportation.
- Knowledge of cabling infrastructure; outside-plant knowledge from central office to demarcation is considered.
- Proficiency with smartphones, computers, email, spreadsheets, and Microsoft Office programs.
- Customer relationship and verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to use teamwork, problem-solving, communication, adaptability, critical thinking, time management, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work unsupervised.
- Ability to interact effectively with general contractors, information technology professionals, and other stakeholders.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and no driving under the influence or driving while intoxicated conviction within the last three years.
- Current OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification, or ability to obtain it within 60 days of employment.
- Knowledge of industrial environments, including union and non-union settings and heightened safety vigilance.
- Basic telephony and wire-work training will be considered.
- Experience with fiber optic terminations, including Unicam or similar systems, single-strand fusion splicing, and ribbon fusion splicing.
- Knowledge of redlines and as-built documentation.
Responsibilities
- Install, troubleshoot, and maintain various cabling infrastructures.
- Install, terminate, and test Category 6 and single-mode and multimode fiber optic cables according to the design and scope of work.
- Install, aim, and focus Internet Protocol cameras.
- Run low-voltage cabling in commercial buildings up to 2,000,000 square feet, including drilling concrete walls and performing limited conduit work.
- Dress cable pathways and main distribution frames.
- Tie and bundle cables neatly according to safety regulations.
- Install cable support structures such as J-hooks, cable racks, and innerduct.
- Erect support structures and install network devices such as access points and cameras according to the scope of work.
- Repair cable poles and towers.
- Conduct tests to verify that newly installed cable systems and component devices are operational.
- Troubleshoot cable-network issues to ensure proper system function and compliance with local, county, state, and federal codes and legal or insurance requirements.
- Follow project safety requirements established by Wachter, customers, or the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
- Provide Project Management with regular updates on project status and current objectives.
- Lead crews of 6 to 15 technicians by providing daily instruction and training as needed.
