Requirements
  • At least 1 year of registered nurse experience is required; medical-surgical or step-down experience is preferred.
  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing is required.
  • Current appropriate state licensure is required.
  • Current or successful completion of cardiopulmonary resuscitation Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • The candidate must meet practice requirements in the state of employment.
  • Entry-level registered nurses must have a minimum of 2 years of nephrology nursing experience.
  • The candidate must complete Clinical Advancement Program requirements to maintain or advance.
  • The candidate must be able to perform direct patient care involving heavy lifting, moving patients, and assisting with ambulation.
  • The candidate must be able to stand for prolonged periods and bend over.
  • The candidate must be able to move machines and equipment weighing up to 200 pounds with assistance and lift chemical and water solutions weighing up to 30 pounds as high as 5 feet.
  • The candidate may be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases or materials.
  • The candidate may be required to travel to training sites or other facilities.
  • The candidate may be asked to provide essential functions at other locations with the same physical demands and working conditions.
Responsibilities
  • Perform ongoing, systematic collection and analysis of patient data before, during, and after hemodialysis treatment for assigned patients, document it in the patient medical record, adjust or modify the treatment plan as indicated, and notify the appropriate clinical personnel or physician as needed.
  • Assess, collaborate on, and document patients' and families' basic learning needs to provide initial and ongoing education.
  • Direct and provide, in collaboration with direct and ancillary patient care staff, all aspects of the daily provision of safe and effective hemodialysis therapy to assigned patients.
  • Administer medications as prescribed or in accordance with approved algorithms and document the medical justification and effectiveness.
  • Initiate or assist with emergency response measures.
  • Serve as a resource, leader, coach, mentor, and role model for new and incumbent employees by modeling appropriate behavior, work habits, and attitudes.
  • Ensure correct laboratory collection, processing, and shipping procedures and reschedule missed or insufficient laboratory collections.
  • Identify expected outcomes and document and update nursing assessments and plans of care for assigned patients through collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Ensure patient awareness of transplant and treatment modality options.
  • Participate in education and quality improvement projects at the facility and area levels as directed by the Supervisor.
  • Serve as a Preceptor to new employees when required.
  • Perform all essential functions under the direction of the Supervisor and with guidance from the Clinical Educator, Preceptor, or other Registered Nurses.
  • Perform duties in accordance with company policy, nursing practice standards, and state and federal regulations.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Supervisor.
