Requirements
  • Must have graduated from an approved Medical Assistant Certified program and have a current Medical Assistant Certified license issued from the Washington State Department of Health.
  • Must be an MA-Certified or possess an MA-Interim License and pass the examination within the 90-day probationary period.
  • Must obtain Basic Life Support CPR within 90 days of the hire date and maintain current Basic Life Support CPR throughout employment.
  • Must adhere to the Sea Mar Employee Health Screening Policy, including pre-hire and annual employee health screening.
  • Must be able to read and write proficiently in English.
  • Must demonstrate clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to calculate medical dosages, including milligrams to milliliters.
  • Must be able to analyze and present data for reports.
  • Must be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Must learn and become proficient in SharePoint, Arcadia, OneHealth Portal, HealthPlanFinder, electronic health records, EKG monitors, retinal cameras, and other technical resources as needed.
  • Must become fully proficient with Sea Mar’s patient management and electronic health records systems before the end of the probationary period.
  • Must maintain patient confidentiality and privacy and comply with all HIPAA regulations.
  • Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position, including frequent lifting or moving of up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting or moving of up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to interact sensitively and effectively with people of diverse backgrounds.
Responsibilities
  • Track and document all clinical measures and outcomes in the electronic health record, including reviewing patient records and reaching out to patients with care gaps.
  • Coordinate and process patient referrals for internal and external services in accordance with established protocols.
  • Assist providers in serving an average of 18 to 21 patients per day, based on provider type.
  • Identify age-specific patient needs and clinical measures for infant, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Identify clinical needs according to diagnosis and follow clinical guidelines and established protocols.
  • Prepare for and participate in Care Team Huddles by collecting clinic forms, quality measures, laboratory and X-ray reports, Patient Manager information, medication confirmations, and other visit information.
  • Prepare patients for visits by obtaining subjective information and vital signs.
  • Document relevant patient information, care provided, and processes in accordance with Sea Mar protocols.
  • Prepare examination and procedure rooms by stocking supplies and disinfecting them according to established protocols.
  • Administer intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injections and administer oral, rectal, and inhaled medications as ordered by the provider.
  • Document medication administration according to protocol and maintain and reconcile medication and immunization data.
  • Assist providers with gynecological examinations, incision and drainage procedures, and other minor procedures.
  • Report abnormal vital signs to the provider immediately.
  • Use aseptic technique and follow infection-control and standard-precaution policies.
  • Assist with ordering department supplies.
  • Assist Nursing and Medical Assistant Supervisors with streamlining and implementing pod and patient-flow systems.
  • Perform point-of-care referrals, including specialty care and care coordination, and provide required information to specialist offices.
  • Assist with obtaining laboratory tests and results and obtain patient notes and records from hospitals and other provider offices.
  • Communicate provider and patient-flow delays to front-desk staff, the direct supervisor, and patients.
  • Manage biohazardous waste and assist with pharmacy requests.
  • Perform required quality controls and maintain medication storage, dispensing, and waste logs.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and in-service training.
  • Provide shadowing opportunities for new staff and participate in quality-improvement audits and organizational committees as assigned.
  • Use the AIDET model to provide customer service and escort patients to and from treatment rooms.
  • Resolve referred incoming clinical phone calls within one business day.
  • Provide services according to schedule, be prepared to work by 8:00 a.m., complete quality-care gaps for patients, support Follow My Health enrollment, and close chart notes within 24 hours of service.
  • Provide services using AIDET skills and support the required daily patient volume.
  • Follow medical, nursing, health and safety, personnel, treatment, confidentiality, and other organizational policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Being bilingual in English and Spanish is strongly desired.
  • Ambulatory care experience is preferred.
  • Previous experience in Family Medicine is preferred.
  • Ability to speak and interpret in Spanish is preferred.
