It focuses on leaving more than money—voice notes, playlists, recipes, and videos—co-created over time through conversations rather than rushed forms. The platform works by collecting and organizing these personal memories and media as a living project that evolves with life events. Compared with typical options that center on wills and probate forms, Octopus Legacy emphasizes human connection and collaborative storytelling, offering a way to preserve memories for loved ones. The goal is to help people leave a meaningful, personal, and enduring legacy that reflects their life and relationships.

What believers are saying

  • Legal Futures reported May 2026 probate work rising 1,000% after NewLaw's acquisition.
  • Octopus Legacy said 2026 support would exceed one million people, up from 200,000 in 2023.
  • Its February 2026 free-wills campaign with 150 charities feeds future probate and charitable-gift revenue.

What critics are saying

  • Growth depends on acquisitions; integration failures after Shoosmiths and NewLaw would stall the strategy.
  • Probate remains heavily regulated; FCA scrutiny or compliance failures would damage trust and revenue.
  • Co-op Legal Services still rivals scale; a sustained price war can compress margins quickly.

What makes Octopus Legacy unique

  • Octopus Legacy bundles wills, probate, and estate administration inside FCA-regulated Octopus Legal Services.
  • By May 2026, it absorbed Shoosmiths and NewLaw teams, scaling faster than peers.
  • Its charity partnerships with 150-plus organizations give it unusual low-cost customer acquisition leverage.

Octopus Legacy acquires Shoosmiths will bank in push to become UK's largest estate planner

Octopus Legacy has acquired the will bank of Top 100 law firm Shoosmiths, strengthening its position in regulated estate planning. The deal follows Octopus Legacy's acquisition of WSL Will Writing in the past 18 months, which brought over 300,000 clients and positioned it as the UK's second-largest estate planning firm. Sam Grice, founder and CEO of Octopus Legacy, called the acquisition "an important milestone" and testament to the company's growth within the regulated space. The firm aims to become the largest private client firm in the country whilst modernising estate planning services. For Shoosmiths, the transfer aligns with its strategy of focusing on core practice areas, following previous sales of its private client team to Rothley's and personal injury business to Fletchers.
