Requirements
  • NYSED LMSW or LMHC licensure, or another Qualified Health Professional status such as an MSW-Limited Permit or MHC-Limited Permit, with the stated timelines for obtaining licensure where applicable.
  • A Master’s Degree in Social Work or Mental Health Counseling.
  • At least one to two years of demonstrated clinical experience in substance use and/or mental health treatment for designated programs based on facility needs.
  • In-depth knowledge of New York City’s diverse network of medical and behavioral health care organizations, including substance use disorder treatment services, education and employment services, and non-traditional community support groups.
  • Computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and an electronic health record system.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Responsibilities
  • Work with patients and their families to determine treatment goals.
  • Solicit family information, observations, and concerns.
  • Interview and observe patients and develop treatment plans.
  • Implement goals, policies, and activities designed to meet program objectives.
  • Conduct individual and group therapy sessions for patients with mental illness, emotional problems, and substance abuse problems.
  • Assess incoming clients and help prepare them for transitioning home when needed.
  • Provide referrals to appropriate mental health resources.
  • Monitor patients’ treatment progress and track their mental status.
  • Consult with other mental health professionals to provide effective courses of treatment.
  • Provide crisis intervention services to patients who are in danger of harming themselves or others.
  • Maintain accurate records of patient records and treatment provided.
  • Evaluate and use community mental health resources as needed.
  • Keep abreast of changes in the field.
  • Perform other duties as requested.
