Did Siri finally stops defaulting to Apple Music for Spotify?

Did Siri finally stops defaulting to Apple Music for Spotify? By Abdul Wasay | 3 hours ago | Spotify users on iOS 27 no longer need to say "on Spotify" every time they ask Siri to play something. The company announced on October 13 that Siri can now learn a user's preferred music app and route audio requests there automatically. Previously, iPhone users had to end every voice command with "on Spotify" to avoid Siri defaulting to Apple Music. Spotify has supported Siri commands since iOS 13, but naming the app each time made hands-free listening feel clunky. This gave Apple Music a subtle home-field advantage over rival streaming services for years. Now, Siri picks up on listening habits over time and sends requests to Spotify without being told. The feature works with songs, albums, playlists, podcasts, and audiobooks. Users can also trigger Spotify-specific features through Siri, like playing their AI DJ mix or Discover Weekly playlist. In addition, Siri can resume podcasts, search a user's library, and even create AI-powered Prompted Playlists through voice commands. Playback controls like skipping tracks, adjusting volume, and saving songs also work by voice. However, the upgrade comes with some strict requirements. Users need an iPhone 15 Pro or later running iOS 27 with Apple Intelligence turned on. The standard iPhone 15, iPhone 14, and all older models cannot access the smarter routing. Those users must still say "on Spotify" the old way. Siri must also run in English for the new commands to work at launch. Apple's Siri AI experience currently operates in eight countries: the US, UK, Canada, Australia, India, New Zealand, Singapore, and South Africa. Notably, the feature is not available in the EU. Neither Apple nor Spotify has explained the exclusion. However, it follows a pattern of Apple withholding AI features in Europe, where the European Commission fined Apple €1.8 billion in 2024 over music streaming competition rules. The feature also works across AirPods, Apple Watch, and CarPlay. This makes it especially useful for drivers and listeners who rely on voice commands throughout the day. Notably, this change does not make Spotify the system-wide default music player. Siri simply learns a preference based on repeated use. Spotify recommends starting with a few full commands that include "on Spotify" to help Siri learn faster. Separately, Spotify launched an in-app voice and text search beta in July 2026 for eligible Premium subscribers. That feature lets users discover music, review listening history, and learn about content directly inside the Spotify app. It operates independently from the Siri integration. The update matters for Spotify's 761 million monthly active users worldwide. As of Q1 2026, the platform has 293 million Premium subscribers. Meanwhile, Apple Music remains the only streaming service that works with Siri by default on every iPhone. This iOS 27 change narrows that gap but does not fully close it.

Across different chapters of Ben&Ben's Spotify journey, iconic songs continue to resonate with listeners and find new meaning across generations. In 2017, while still a duo, they became one of six Philippine artists featured in Spotify's Early Noise program, introducing their music to listeners looking for emerging local acts. A year later, "Kathang Isip" marked another milestone in their discovery, reaching 10 million streams and landing on the cover of Pinoy Chart-Toppers, bringing the band to a wider OPM audience. By 2020, Ben&Ben had become Spotify Philippines' Most Streamed Artist, reflecting how early discovery had translated into a deeper fan base and wider reach. Listeners also found new ways to engage more closely with the band and their music on Spotify. For "Pebble House, Vol. 1: Kuwaderno", Spotify launched Pebble House Corners, giving fans a virtual tour of the band house where the album was made and bringing them closer to the world behind the songs. We've seen songs we wrote years ago become part of very different moments in our listeners' lives, sometimes in ways we never could have imagined when we first made them. NINE is both a love letter to our listeners and a celebration of our friendship. It's such an amazing feeling to see our songs growing with our listeners and continuing to live with them," shared Ben&Ben. % buffered Powered by GliaStudios For Spotify, Ben&Ben's journey shows how a song can outlive its release, finding new listeners while taking on new meaning for those who have stayed with it. "Ben&Ben's journey shows how a song can keep growing beyond the moment it was released. For Filipino listeners, music often becomes a way to remember a person, mark a milestone, or express something they can't quite say themselves. Those connections give a song a reason to stay and to be shared with someone who hasn't heard it yet. It reflects a uniquely powerful aspect of music fandom: how songs take on different meanings across stages of life while remaining part of a shared cultural experience. That's why Spotify continues to create spaces for both discovery and deeper fan connection, helping listeners stay connected to the music and artists they love," said Chesca Tan, Lead Editor for Spotify Philippines.

Spotify launches audiobooks in Kenya with 350K+ titles & new subscription tier.

Spotify launches audiobooks in Kenya with 350K+ titles & new subscription tier. October 14, 2026 Spotify has officially expanded its audiobook offering to Kenya, bringing a catalogue of over 350,000 titles directly into the platform alongside its existing music and podcast streaming services. The expansion makes audiobooks accessible to both Free and Premium Spotify users across Kenya. Spotify's audiobooks are now available in more than 180 markets worldwide. Alongside the launch, Spotify introduced Audiobooks+, a standalone subscription feature designed specifically for audiobook enthusiasts. Key details of the launch include: * Audiobooks+ Subscription: Available for Ksh. 489 per month, providing listeners with 15 hours of audiobook listening time each month. * Feature Set: Users can access offline downloads, seamless cross-device auto-bookmarking, and page-matching features to track their reading progress across physical and digital formats. * Broad Availability: Listening access is integrated directly into the core Spotify application for both Free and Premium tiers. Sorry, audiophiles - Spotify is crashing when playback quality is set to lossless.

Sorry, audiophiles - Spotify is crashing when playback quality is set to lossless. The issue is on its second day, but Spotify is looking into it. Edgar Cervantes / Android Authority Add Android Authority on Google: * Spotify is crashing for those listening to tracks at the "lossless" setting on a desktop. * Spotify posted that it's aware of the issue. * Switching media quality to "very good" seems to be the solution for now. Spotify outages happen almost as regularly as New Music Friday, and now Android Authority has got a fresh issue to deal with. This time, Spotify users have been crashing out over the desktop version of the app, well, crashing out when they went to play some of their favorite songs with the media quality set to "lossless." Spotify said it is working on the problem, which is now on its second day. Its top deals of the day. Early this morning, a Spotify staff member posted on the Spotify Community Forum, "We've received reports that the app frequently crashes during playback when the audio quality is set to 'Lossless'. This occurs mainly on desktop." The forum is filled with a few dozen complaints. Most users said they were using Windows, though one said that it happened to them with Linux. Mac users might not be affected, as one user said that while they had the issue on their Windows machine, they did not have it on their Mac. Spotify users narrowed the blame to the lossless setting by looking at crash logs and having success in playing tracks when they adjusted their audio quality settings from "lossless" to "very good." None of the usual tricks to clear a software issue seem to have worked, with many saying they have tried refreshing, reinstalling, and turning off hardware acceleration to little avail. The only thing that worked for one person was the laborious process of starting playback on their phone and then transferring it to their computer on a track-by-track basis. The problem does not seem to be persistent across tracks, leading some to post exactly what they were listening to when the app crashed. The list serves as a sort of soundtrack to the issue. Spotify introduced the lossless setting for Spotify Premium members in September of last year. It streams audio up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz in the FLAC format. Previously the highest audio quality available on Spotify was "Very High," which uses a lossy Ogg Vorbis/AAC format capped at 320 kbps. Thank you for being part of its community.
