Requirements
  • The person in this position must be of good character and maintain the physical health, emotional stability, and personality suited to meet the physical, mental, emotional, and social needs of the population served.
  • Speak, write, and read proficiently in English.
  • Basic mathematical skills are required, including adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, and converting pounds to kilograms.
  • Solve practical problems in situations with limited standardization and interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, or scheduled instructions.
  • Be familiar with Microsoft Office Windows, SharePoint, Arcadia, One Health Portal, Health Plan Finder, electronic medical record systems, electrocardiogram monitors, and retinal cameras; proficiency with the agency practice-management and electronic health-record systems is required before the end of the probationary period.
  • Understand mental health and chemical dependency treatment.
  • Have organizational and communication skills and the ability to work on a team while giving and receiving constructive criticism.
  • Have no history or evidence of alcohol or other drug misuse for three years immediately before employment or while employed.
  • Not have disqualifying felony, child-abuse, or physical-harm convictions or substantiated child-abuse findings.
  • Demonstrate respect for diversity and understanding of the community system, with experience forming and maintaining effective relationships with clients, team members, and community providers.
  • Pass a Washington State Patrol background check and a satisfactory background check.
  • Sign a permanent oath of confidentiality covering client-related information.
  • Hold a Certified Nursing Assistant license from the Washington State Department of Health or a comparable certification from another state.
  • Pass an annual competency test.
  • Complete pre-hire and annual employee health screening and pass a tuberculosis test at hire and annually thereafter.
  • Have a valid Washington State driver's license.
  • Obtain Basic Life Support cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification within 90 days of hire and maintain it throughout employment.
Responsibilities
  • Support psychiatric prescribers in administrative and clinical areas and coordinate care with mental health therapists and chemical dependency professionals.
  • Provide screenings and case management and coordinate community support services.
  • Assist with agency compliance with Washington Administrative Code, Revised Code of Washington, applicable laws, regulations, and contracts.
  • Prepare and organize charts, prescription refill requests, and paperwork needed by the psychiatric prescriber.
  • Maintain medication storage, maintenance, dispensation, and waste logs according to organizational policies and procedures, and report non-compliance.
  • Ensure medical, nursing, health and safety, and personnel policies and procedures are followed and implemented.
  • Assist psychiatric staff with client flow and provide timely, quality care.
  • Complete routine checks and monitor clients for unusual or harmful behavior and report observations to psychiatric staff.
  • Prepare patients for provider visits by obtaining subjective data and vital signs and ensuring compliant charting.
  • Work as part of an integrated care team that may include psychiatrists, social workers, behavioral health professionals, chemical dependency professionals, and case managers.
  • Provide routine physical, emotional, psychological, or rehabilitation care to mentally impaired or emotionally disturbed clients under psychiatric staff direction.
  • Encourage client participation in social, educational, recreational, and employment activities.
  • Process pharmacy medication-refill requests, prepare requests for provider review and approval, and ensure prescriptions are faxed to pharmacies.
  • Check the electronic health record to validate refill requests, route valid requests to the prescriber, and communicate with pharmacies about invalid requests.
  • Review medication history as requested by the prescriber and collaborate with the prescriber on next steps.
  • Handle client calls about medication side effects and refill status.
  • Facilitate client enrollment in prescription-assistance programs.
  • Provide age-appropriate care and apply principles of growth and development across the life span.
  • Monitor medication effects and report positive and negative side effects to the psychiatrist.
  • Screen for suicide risk, notify the psychiatric prescriber and mental health therapist, and provide follow-up through case management and community support.
  • Maintain confidentiality, prevent splitting between staff and clients, and provide concrete approaches for challenging situations.
  • Advocate for clients and encourage cooperation with service plans or problem resolution, including transportation and language barriers.
  • Assist clients with service-access tasks, including forms, documentation, authorizations, and transportation.
  • Make referrals to appropriate agencies and community services and assist clients with self-referrals.
  • Maintain case-management files required by the state and agency.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team case reviews.
  • Complete daily record keeping as directed by the Program Manager.
  • Report unusual incidents and suspected child or elder abuse or neglect as required by Washington Administrative Code.
  • Support a full-time medical doctor or advanced registered nurse practitioner provider in seeing an average of 14 patients per day.
  • Assist providers with gynecological examinations, incision and drainage procedures, and other minor procedures.
  • Use clear and concise written and verbal communication and immediately contact the provider when abnormal vital signs make a patient a priority.
  • Use aseptic technique.
  • Complete point-of-care referrals, support specialty-care coordination, and provide patients with referral information.
  • Obtain laboratory tests and results.
  • Maintain collaborative working relationships with coworkers, specialists, and community organizations.
  • Provide customer service at each patient visit, including escorting patients to and from treatment rooms.
  • Communicate provider and patient-flow delays to front-desk staff and patients.
  • Use nursing functions in electronic health-record and practice-management applications.
  • Comply with requirements involving the Joint Commission, National Patient Safety Goals, Department of Health, Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set, Patient-Centered Medical Home, quality improvement, and contractual obligations.
  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation independently.
  • Measure and record fluid and food intake and output.
  • Recognize, respond to, and report clients' or residents' emotional, social, cultural, and mental-health needs.
  • Address individual behavioral needs of clients or residents.
  • Perform duties under Washington Administrative Code 246-841-400 where applicable.
Desired Qualifications
  • The ability to speak and interpret in Spanish and/or Russian may be required depending upon the needs of the clinic.
