Requirements
  • Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma.
  • One year of experience in a position involving assistance with medical treatment or patient examinations, including intravenous blood drawing.
  • Satisfactory completion of a medical assistant program from a State-licensed school or a school or program accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education may substitute for the required experience.
  • A college with federally authorized accreditation or registration by New York State may substitute for the required experience.
  • Ability to safely draw intravenous blood.
  • Ability to deal effectively with clients in a courteous and tactful manner.
  • Ability to maintain records and prepare reports and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
Responsibilities
  • Interview clients to obtain medical histories and record information in charts, and assist clients with forms and applications for services.
  • Take blood pressure and pulse, test urine specimens, draw blood samples, and check height, weight, and vision to prepare clients for complete physical examinations by providers.
  • Set up examining rooms and tables, sterilize and clean equipment, answer phones, make appointments, coordinate insurance coverage, maintain records, and prepare correspondence and reports.
  • Ensure compliance with established safety and health procedures during phlebotomy operations.
Desired Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of medical office policies and procedures, preferably in an OASAS Clinic setting.
