About the job
- A Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited educational institution.
- A current pharmacist license in the states within the district, or willingness to obtain the required license within one year.
- At least one year of pharmacy experience, including prescription filling and verification, records and legal compliance, pharmacy operations, pharmacy software and technology systems, and insurance.
- Specialized medication and disease-state training, or sufficient practical experience to provide the specialized services offered at the clinic location, such as HIV, organ transplant, or oncology services.
- Ensure department personnel provide hospitable, courteous, friendly, and efficient service and information.
- Respond to customer inquiries and complaints and maintain and improve the overall image of the pharmacy department.
- Manage the daily operation of the pharmacy department.
- Improve prescription numbers, pharmacy sales, profit, and image through accurate prescription filling and courteous, efficient service to patients, prescribers, pharmaceutical manufacturers, payers, and health systems.
- Report prescription errors immediately and adhere to company policies and procedures for prescription incidents and the Quality Improvement Program.
- Comply with federal and state laws, regulations, and company policies governing drugs and products, and maintain required records, documentation, and reports.
- Recommend and implement asset protection controls and procedures to identify and minimize profit loss.
- Maintain pharmacy department housekeeping, maintenance, and appearance and ensure adherence to applicable government regulations and laws.
- Control the store safe and bank, including electronic register readings, cash withdrawals, cash accounts, daily cash reports, cash over-and-short records, and related cash-management reports.
- Ensure proper operation and maintenance of pharmacy department systems and equipment.
- Monitor third-party pharmacy business opportunities and ensure administration and implementation of third-party pharmacy systems and procedures to reduce payment rejections.
- Resolve third-party claim rejection problems promptly and resubmit rejected claims for payment on time.
- Manage and control prescription department inventory and follow company buying procedures, including recommending and ordering merchandise from appropriate internal and external sources.
- Supervise pharmacy department team members to ensure performance of required functions and adherence to company policies and procedures.
- Ensure proper licensure of all pharmacy department personnel.
- Confirm that pharmacy department employees are trained on required functions involving payer and pharmaceutical contractual requirements, adverse-event reporting, data and inventory reporting, and clinical management.
- Regularly reaffirm with pharmacy department personnel their obligations to dispense prescriptions only in good faith.
- Audit personal performance and recommend personal objectives and performance standards.
- Maintain awareness of developments in pharmacy, health care, and retail management relevant to the responsibilities and integrate them into practice.
- Maintain and develop working relationships with physicians and other health professionals.
- Work collaboratively with the Local Specialty Pharmacy staff.
- Previous experience at a Walgreens Local Specialty Pharmacy.
- An overall performance review score of Exceeds Expectations for the most recent review period and Achieving Expectations for the earliest review period.
