Elekta presents study at ASTRO 2026 showing promising long-term results.

Elekta presents study at ASTRO 2026 showing promising long-term results. Published on 09/29/2026 at 01:23 am EDT Finwire - Translated by Marketscreener - See original Medical technology company Elekta is highlighting new study data presented at ASTRO 2026 showing promising long-term results for patients with localized pancreatic cancer who were not candidates for surgery. The study at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center included 123 patients who were treated with high-dose MR-guided adaptive radiation therapy using Elekta Unity between May 2020 and December 2024. After a median follow-up of just over two years, overall survival was 37.4 percent at two years and 26.3 percent at three years. The proportion of patients without local progression was 76.8 percent at both two and three years. The researchers believe the results warrant further evaluation of the treatment strategy. Elekta is also continuing the development of Unity through Unity Pro, which includes AI-assisted contouring, GPU-accelerated planning and remote collaboration capabilities. (C) Finwire - 2026

Elekta announces adaptive radiotherapy portfolio with advanced capabilities at ASTRO 2026.

Elekta announces adaptive radiotherapy portfolio with advanced capabilities at ASTRO 2026. September 27, 2026 · News Release Elekta has revealed the expansion of its adaptive radiotherapy portfolio to include new functionalities across CT, MR, radiosurgery, and brachytherapy modalities. Unveiled at the ASTRO annual meeting, these advancements aim to integrate adaptive treatment options into routine clinical practice, offering more tailored and efficient patient care. The company's suite of adaptive solutions now extends to Elekta Unity for MR-guided radiotherapy, Elekta Evo for CT-guided online adaptive radiotherapy, and Leksell Gamma Knife Esprit for adaptive radiosurgery. Recently, Elekta introduced online adaptive capabilities for Elekta Harmony, a CT-Linac platform, and real-time adaptive planning for prostate brachytherapy with Elekta Prostate Guideway. Elekta Harmony's enhanced feature set, supported by Elekta ONE Online software, helps assess patient anatomy during treatment sessions and enables adaptive treatment-plan changes as needed. Designed for operational efficiency, Harmony provides streamlined workflows and automation to support continuous treatment delivery, even in high-volume settings. Chirag Shah, MD, Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology at Allegheny Health Network, emphasized, "For adaptive radiotherapy to reach more patients, it has to fit into daily clinical practice. Different patients and disease sites need different approaches, and the workflows have to be practical and efficient for our team and clinically appropriate for the patient. Having adaptive options across Elekta's portfolio helps us deliver the same high-quality care across our network." Furthermore, Elekta Prostate Guideway introduces adaptive workflows for high-dose-rate (HDR) prostate brachytherapy. This solution integrates imaging, planning, and treatment adaptation within a single-room setup, featuring continuous dose recalculation and real-time plan updates that accommodate anatomical changes and needle shifts during the procedure. The integration of diagnostic MRI and biopsy data into the live treatment workflow, combined with instant visual feedback, supports well-informed target and treatment planning decisions. John Lapré, Elekta's Chief Business Line Officer for Brachytherapy Solutions, highlighted the importance of timely information in such treatments: "In a dynamic interventional procedure like prostate brachytherapy, having the right information at the right time can make a meaningful difference. When clinicians can continuously see the impact of changes and receive clear guidance, they can adapt treatment with greater confidence." These developments extend Elekta's adaptive offerings across multiple treatment modalities, providing clinicians the flexibility to choose the most appropriate imaging and workflow solutions based on patient needs and clinical circumstances. It is important to note that the regulatory status of some products may vary by region. The Prostate Guideway is still pre-commercial and awaiting FDA 510(k) clearance and EU CE marking. HCA expands radiotherapy capabilities with MR Linac launch.

HCA expands radiotherapy capabilities with MR Linac launch. HCA Healthcare UK (HCA UK) has expanded its radiotherapy capabilities with the introduction of the Elekta Unity MR-Linac at The Harley Street Clinic, bringing personalised radiotherapy treatment to patients and furthering its complex cancer care offering. The MR-Linac combines a high-resolution MRI scanner with a linear accelerator, enabling clinicians to visualise tumours in real time while delivering radiotherapy. This approach, known as MR-guided and adaptive radiotherapy, allows treatment to be precisely targeted, even as tumours move or change shape during a treatment session. HCA explains the technology is particularly beneficial for cancers in areas of the body that are subject to movement during a treatment, such as prostate and central lung tumours. By continuously tracking tumour motion and adapting treatment accordingly, clinicians can deliver higher radiation doses with increased accuracy, HCA said, adding this may reduce the number of treatment sessions required for some patients while protecting surrounding healthy tissue. This acquisition of this image-guided radiotherapy represents a significant investment of £15m for HCA UK and marks the organisation's first MR-Linac system globally. The Harley Street Clinic becomes one of only a small number of providers in London to offer this advanced form of radiotherapy. Treatment will be delivered by HCA UK's multi-disciplinary cancer team, including consultant clinical oncologists, physicists, dosimetrists and radiographers, who work together on treatment planning and delivery. The service will be led by dedicated MR-Linac consultant, Dr Elena Moreno Olmedo, an expert in MR-guided radiotherapy. Dr Moreno Olmedo will oversee treatment sessions, working closely with the wider team to adapt each patient's radiotherapy plan in real time to ensure optimal precision. The introduction of the technology coincides with HCA UK joining the international Elekta MR-Linac Consortium, a global collaboration of centres focused on advancing evidence-based use of MR-guided radiotherapy. The consortium aims to optimise treatment approaches, improve tumour control and survival outcomes, and enhance patient quality of life through ongoing research and shared clinical expertise. Dr John Conibear, clinical oncologist and radiotherapy lead clinician at HCA UK, said: "MR-guided radiotherapy represents a significant advancement in how Healthcare & Protection deliver precision cancer treatment. "The ability to see and respond to tumour motion in real time allows Healthcare & Protection to treat with greater accuracy and confidence, particularly for tumours that have traditionally been challenging to target. "Ultimately, this means we can deliver highly personalised care with the potential for improved outcomes and fewer treatment sessions for patients." William Pressley, CEO at The Harley Street Clinic, added: "Healthcare & Protection is proud to be one of the first independent hospitals in London to offer advanced radiotherapy with the use of the MR-Linac at The Harley Street Clinic. "The introduction of this technology reflects its continued investment in advanced cancer care and its commitment to providing patients with access to the latest treatment innovations. "This technology enables our expert teams to deliver highly precise, adaptive radiotherapy, reinforcing our position as a leading centre for complex cancer treatment."
