SEL expands manufacturing operations in West Lafayette.

SEL expands manufacturing operations in West Lafayette. Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) will invest $25 million to expand manufacturing operations at its West Lafayette facility, increasing production capacity for recloser controls by more than 35% and creating approximately 130 new career opportunities. The project supports growing global demand for technologies that improve the reliability and resilience of electric power systems. The expansion will take place within the SEL facility at 1838 Indiana 26 in the Purdue Discovery Park District, creating a more vertically integrated manufacturing operation through the addition of printed circuit board assembly capabilities."This expansion strengthens our ability to serve customers," said Leith Sorenson, senior vice president of manufacturing. "By increasing manufacturing capacity in West Lafayette and bringing more of the production process under one roof, we're improving efficiency, creating new career opportunities and positioning SEL to meet growing demand for our products and solutions."The company will add surface mount technology, electronic assembly and conformal coat production lines to the operation. These new capabilities will enable SEL to complete more manufacturing processes at the location, increasing efficiency and simplifying product flow from board assembly through final assembly and testing. The expansion will support increased production of recloser controls, which help electric utilities improve service reliability and reduce outage durations by automatically detecting and responding to power system faults. This project is part of a broader manufacturing growth strategy that includes recent investments in Idaho, Indiana, North Carolina and Washington. These investments will increase production capacity and strengthen supply chain resilience within the United States."Growing demand for reliable electricity, grid modernization, data centers and critical infrastructure is driving increased investment in power system technologies worldwide," said Dave Whitehead, president. "These projects reflect our commitment to delivering the products customers need, when they need them, while maintaining the quality and reliability that define SEL."The West Lafayette project is expected to be completed in March 2027.New career opportunities will include direct production roles and positions that support manufacturing operations. SEL invests heavily in employee training and professional development, creating pathways for long-term career growth in manufacturing, engineering, leadership and more.SEL has more than 800 open positions globally. WSU unveils $80 million engineering hall to boost student innovation. By www.kxly.com - RSS Results in news/local-news of type article Sep 18, 2026 | 12:06 PM PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State University celebrated the opening of Schweitzer Engineering Hall on Friday, a landmark facility representing a significant investment in engineering education and innovation. The 66,288-square-foot building serves as the central hub for the Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture, with spaces for student support, hands-on learning, and collaborative projects. "Schweitzer Engineering Hall represents the very best of what can happen when public investment, private philanthropy, and a shared belief in student success come together," said WSU President Betsy Cantwell. "This building will serve generations of Cougars by providing inspiring spaces where students can discover, create, collaborate, and prepare to solve some of society's most pressing challenges." The $80 million project was made possible through a partnership among WSU, the State of Washington, Ed and Beatriz Schweitzer, Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, and nearly 100 additional donors, corporations, and foundations. "This facility is much more than a building," said Partha Pande, dean of WSU's Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture. "It is a place where students will find community, receive support, pursue bold ideas, and gain the knowledge and experience needed to shape the future." SEL achieves IEC 62443-2-4 certification, strengthening cybersecurity assurance for critical-infrastructure customers.

SEL achieves IEC 62443-2-4 certification, strengthening cybersecurity assurance for critical-infrastructure customers. PULLMAN, Washington - Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) has earned IEC 62443-2-4 certification at Maturity Level 2 from exida, a globally recognized certification body for industrial control system security. For utilities, industrial organizations and other critical-infrastructure operators, the exida certification validates that SEL applies documented and managed cybersecurity practices when providing services for industrial automation and control systems (IACSs). IEC 62443-2-4 is an international standard that establishes cybersecurity requirements for service providers involved in the integration and maintenance of industrial automation solutions. Beyond the security features of individual products, IACS cybersecurity depends on how solutions are designed, integrated, configured, commissioned, maintained and supported throughout their life cycle."Cybersecurity is essential to the reliability and resilience of critical infrastructure," said Nicholas Seeley, senior vice president of Engineering Services. "Pursuing IEC 62443-2-4 certification reinforces our commitment to delivering trusted, secure solutions that our customers can depend on." This certification reflects a longstanding history of security by design at SEL, beginning when SEL founder Dr. Edmund O. Schweitzer, III, invented the first password-protected relay over 40 years ago. Learn more about SEL IACS service offerings.
