Requirements
  • Ability to read and write at an eighth-grade level, with testing required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
Responsibilities
  • Assist personnel with transferring, turning, and positioning patients.
  • Maintain professional development and practice.
  • Carry an assigned cell phone and pager and respond to calls and pages in a timely manner.
  • Disassemble and return traction equipment to proper storage areas.
  • Maintain and locate gurneys, wheelchairs, and other essential equipment within the hospital.
  • Maintain and organize bed storage areas.
  • Keep hallways and utility rooms clear of equipment and clutter to maintain safety.
  • Obtain and set up traction equipment.
  • Pick up blood products from the Blood Bank and deliver them to the unit.
  • Pick up and deliver specimens to the laboratory.
  • Respond to Code Blue emergencies and assist with chest compressions as directed by a physician or Advanced Cardiac Life Support registered nurse.
  • Respond to Code Stroke by transferring patients to the radiology department in a timely manner.
  • Respond to emergency codes.
  • Participate in the organization-wide Performance Improvement Program through orientation, education, departmental participation, and interdepartmental quality control.
  • Participate in performance improvement and quality planning activities.
  • Support the unit team by promoting unity and teamwork among coworkers and maintaining positive working relationships.
  • Transfer patients to the Viewing Room or Morgue and assist with setting up the viewing room.
  • Transport patients by gurney, bed, or wheelchair.
  • Use the TeleTracking Transport System correctly and effectively to maintain optimum productivity.
  • Under RN supervision, safely and efficiently move patients to and from clinical units and diagnostic or treatment areas.
  • Demonstrate compliance with infection-control, legal, and safety standards.
Desired Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • A minimum of one year of recent experience in an acute-care hospital.
