Requirements
  • Nursing Assistant Certification in Long Term Care in New York State.
  • Completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant Program at BOCES or a 100-hour Certified Nursing Assistant Approved Program.
  • A valid and current certificate from New York State.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of safety and infection control policies.
  • Ability to interpret medical terminology.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with resident admission, including reception, preparation, and data collection.
  • Function as a team member in administering direct resident care, attending carefully to personal hygiene, safety, comfort, skin care, and residents’ anticipated needs.
  • Prepare residents for meals, assist with feeding, and distribute fluids, nourishment, and snacks.
  • Transport residents between facility areas and at discharge in a timely manner.
  • Collect and transport specimens in a timely manner.
  • Respond to call bells and alarms in a timely manner.
  • Ensure personal alarms are in place and functioning according to each resident’s plan of care.
  • Communicate appropriate information to the nurse, including obvious changes in a resident’s condition.
  • Record intake, output, bowel movements, vital signs, toileting, range of motion, ambulation, restraint use, nutrition, activities of daily living care, security device bracelets, showers and bathing, and skin checks according to facility policy.
  • Assist the nurse in preparing residents for examinations, treatment, and diagnostic tests or X-rays.
  • Demonstrate appropriate restraint application and release for activity.
  • Help maintain a clean, safe environment for residents and coworkers using appropriate safety practices.
Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of computer systems and/or prior clerical experience.
