Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent education and experience is required.
  • Successful completion of an accredited paramedic program is required.
  • A current Michigan EMT-P (Paramedic) license is required.
  • BCLS certification is required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification is required.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills are required.
  • The employee must regularly assess patients by auscultation, visualization, palpation, percussion, and manipulation; regularly talk, hear, stand, walk, and perform fine motor skills; and occasionally stoop, crouch, kneel, lift or move up to 50 pounds, and move quickly to gather equipment and medication during emergencies.
  • The employee must have good body mechanics for lifting, carrying, bending, overhead stretching or reaching, and pulling, and must have close vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Responsibilities
  • Implement appropriate interventions and administer prescribed medication and treatment in accordance with approved nursing techniques and policies.
  • Use evidence-based interventions specific to the patient’s plan and maintain awareness of the patient’s comfort and safety needs.
  • Initiate a patient education plan according to the patient’s individualized needs and coordinate its implementation.
  • Perform advanced skills and procedures outlined in the attached skill sheet.
  • Maintain clinical competency for job-related tasks and assignments.
  • Participate in ongoing educational activities related to appropriate knowledge and professional issues, and maintain professional records documenting competency and continuing education.
  • Evaluate personal practice in relation to professional practice standards and guidelines, relevant statutes, rules, and regulations.
  • Provide age-appropriate care in a culturally and ethnically sensitive manner; participate in self-evaluation and identify strengths and areas for professional development; and participate in systematic peer review as appropriate.
  • Share knowledge and skills with peers and colleagues and contribute to a supportive and healthy work environment.
  • Collaborate with patients, families, and other health disciplines to support positive patient and family outcomes based on the plan of care.
  • Deliver care that preserves and protects patient autonomy, dignity, confidentiality, and rights; serve as a patient advocate.
  • Use research to improve patient health and the practice environment, and participate in research activities appropriate to the role and education level, including identifying clinical problems, data collection, committee participation, sharing findings, conducting research, analyzing practice data and trends, and applying evidence-based practice to policies, procedures, and patient-care standards.
  • Participate in hospital and unit-based committees as appropriate, attend at least 50% of unit staff meetings, and support a professional and healthy work environment when representing Bronson.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Three years of experience as a paramedic in a pre-hospital setting is preferred.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification is preferred and must be obtained within one year of hire.
  • PHTLS is preferred and must be maintained or obtained after hire.
  • BTLS is preferred and must be maintained or obtained after hire.
  • Previous hospital experience is preferred.
  • Basic computer skills are preferred.
