Requirements
  • One year of experience as a cook in an institutional food service setting is preferred.
  • A basic understanding of nutrition and therapeutic diets is required.
  • Understanding of person-centered care is required.
  • Working knowledge and ability to apply professional standards of practice in job situations is required.
Responsibilities
  • Handle and store all food according to facility procedures and safe food handling guidelines.
  • Follow standardized recipes.
  • Prepare foods corresponding to menu cycles developed by Registered Dietitians.
  • Cook or prepare appetizing, attractive, and nutritionally adequate meals in appropriate quantities, temperatures, and time frames.
  • Use food supplies and equipment efficiently and economically to prevent waste.
  • Prepare and maintain food alternatives to accommodate resident choices and refusals.
  • Assist with food storage, food preparation, tray assembly, and cleaning.
  • Operate institutional food preparation equipment according to manufacturer and supervisory direction.
  • Follow proper cleaning and preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Communicate with the supervisor throughout the shift to maximize resident satisfaction.
  • Assist the Dietary Manager with state inspection preparation.
  • Attend survey training and interact with surveyors as instructed.
