Requirements
  • A minimum of a Master’s Degree.
  • One to three years of collegiate athletic training experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to furthering the goals and objectives of both the University and Athletics Department.
  • Ability to successfully communicate with student-athletes and coaching staff.
  • Understanding of the role of the student-athlete in a competitive academic and athletic environment and demonstrated ability to effectively communicate to a variety of constituency groups.
  • Knowledge of National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I and III rules and regulations.
  • Board of Certification certification and New York State athletic training licensure, certification, or registration.
  • Current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and First Aid.
  • Certification to work in the United States and New York State.
  • Knowledge of a large range of medical problems.
  • Assessment and evaluation skills and the ability to work with other healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and return-to-play decisions under state licensure guidelines.
  • Thorough and detailed injury tracking and documentation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in high-stress situations with patients, medical professionals, staff, and families.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and perform multiple tasks with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to lift approximately 50 pounds.
  • Ability to comply with the University’s Health, Safety, and Environmental Policy and Procedures.
  • Successful completion of a background check, including employment, educational and credential verification and criminal records checks.
Responsibilities
  • Provide necessary practice and game coverage for athletic teams, including travel to away venues and work on weekends and nights.
  • Provide onsite care and management of injuries and illnesses, including prevention, evaluation, management, and rehabilitation during and outside the season.
  • Document patient encounters electronically and file and maintain reports associated with athletic injuries, incidents, and rehabilitation.
  • Communicate with physicians and coaching staff regarding athletes’ injury status.
  • Provide timely physician referral assistance for student-athletes needing additional care, including physical therapy, emergency medicine, or orthopedic care.
  • Review medical and insurance forms to determine whether each student-athlete meets participation criteria.
  • Establish an emergency list for each team with insurance information and important medical history for student-athletes.
  • Coordinate and implement injury-prevention programs and customized preventive strategies for each patient.
  • Provide treatments and pre- and post-practice or game care for student-athletes.
  • Minimize injury risk through awareness, education, and prevention strategies.
  • Create a safe playing environment by monitoring and controlling environmental risks.
  • Provide healthcare information and advise athletes, parents, and coaches on the physical, psychological, and emotional health and well-being of competitive athletes.
  • Provide sport-related accommodation recommendations for student-athletes with restrictions or limitations.
  • Provide visiting teams with adequate supplies and training-room assistance.
  • Assist with overseeing training rooms to ensure proper maintenance, cleaning, and supplies.
  • Assist the Head Athletic Trainer with procuring and monitoring athletic supplies and equipment.
  • Assist the Head Athletic Trainer in administering Clarkson’s Athletic Insurance Policy, Athletic Training Policy and Procedures, and Emergency Action Plans.
  • Move supplies such as water and ice to game and practice venues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer.
  • Adhere to the University’s Health, Safety, and Environmental Policy and Procedures.
