Requirements
  • A Master's degree in Medical Physics.
  • Three years of experience.
  • One of the following professional certifications: Diagnostic Medical Physics certification from the American Board of Radiology; Medical Health Physics certification from the American Board of Medical Physics; membership in the Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine; or Therapeutic Medical Physics certification from the American Board of Radiology.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing 0-25 pounds and occasionally handle objects weighing 25-50 pounds.
  • Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, reach, and perform repetitive foot, leg, hand, and arm movements.
  • Ability to use vision and depth perception at near and far distances and identify and distinguish colors.
  • Ability to use hearing and speech for oral communication and hear alarms and malfunctioning machinery.
  • Ability to frequently perform keyboard use and data entry.
  • Ability to occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, squat, twist, and grip, and rarely climb.
Responsibilities
  • Lead or coordinate shift operations involving assigned activities, resources, and associates.
  • Review patient charts to ensure prescriptions are carried out according to physician intent and participate in chart rounds to review prescriptions, dose changes, and patient setup.
  • Evaluate equipment for utility, appropriateness, reliable performance, age, and condition, and recommend practical lifespan, obsolescence, and replacement actions.
  • Determine the need for and specify and access dosimetric and treatment-planning equipment, including measurement instruments, computerized treatment-planning systems, computerized water phantom systems with ionization chambers and diodes, and film densitometry systems.
  • Participate in specifying, selecting, and accepting radiation-producing machines, accessories, and computerized treatment-planning systems.
  • Supervise arrangements for proper maintenance of radiation treatment equipment.
  • Advise and consult with physicians regarding directions to technical staff when patients are planned or treated.
  • Develop protocols for performing and checking unit calculations to ensure calculations agree with written prescriptions.
  • Complete documentation relating to radiation treatment plans and equipment.
  • Participate in the clinical instruction of newly hired radiation staff and radiation therapy students.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
