Requirements
  • 5 or more years of experience as an Engineering Manager
  • Before becoming a leader, you were a high-performing engineer with a track record of end-to-end software development of production systems. Ideally, you have done this in a Ruby on Rails environment
  • You have experience building complex consumer-facing solutions
  • You have experience in experimentation and a/b testing, leading to high-performing, well-loved consumer tech products
  • You have led high-functioning teams and meaningfully built and maintained engineering culture
  • You’ve successfully led teams through growth and change, which means you know how to adapt and set and maintain standards for your team that scale with the business. You are a great coach of engineers with experience hiring, developing talent, and giving feedback
  • You have an exceptional understanding of your team’s coding abilities and know when projects need extra support. You have the experience to help the team make the right architectural decisions that balance business value and system stability
  • You’re skilled at testing, monitoring, and running a production software system
  • You have worked effectively with senior leadership in setting a strategic 6+ month direction
Responsibilities
  • Define, build, and maintain a high-performance, results-driven, collaborative culture aligned with Babylist's core values
  • Capitalize on Babylist's foundation and our highly engaged customer base to create a more impactful experience
  • Own the tactical planning and execution for your team while partnering with other Engineering and Product leaders on shared goals against Babylist's strategic imperatives
  • Be a thought leader and expert in understanding our users and product by prioritizing the highest value areas
  • Empower and inspire your team to achieve their highest potential. Play the key role in onboarding and mentoring your team
  • Serve as a thought leader for the technical roadmap. Provide guidance on processes, tooling, and systems to help the team with key technical decisions
  • Be accountable for your team. Help them to ship high-quality software that meets the business needs
  • Own communication across the product development team and company regarding key milestones, providing frequent, transparent updates on progress towards our goals
  • Partner closely with product owners to design, implement, and deploy systems to support and scale our growing business
