  • For NC Pre-K programs, a high school diploma or GED and an Associate's degree in birth-through-kindergarten, child development, early childhood education, or a related early-childhood field, or a Child Development Associate credential; candidates working toward the Associate's degree must complete at least six documented semester hours per year.
  • For non-NC Pre-K programs, a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • For Title I schools, meeting the employment requirements outlined by the Every Student Succeeds Act.
  • Maintaining a Crisis Prevention and Intervention certification; training is provided if needed.
  • Ability to sit and stand throughout the day and perform medium physical work, including lifting, positioning, or transferring students and exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 25 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.
Responsibilities
  • Assist classroom teachers with classroom activities and general administrative support tasks.
  • Implement goals and objectives established by licensed teachers and work directly with students.
  • Assist in instructing individual students or groups of students in curricular areas as directed by teachers or administrators.
  • Plan and collaborate with teachers on special strategies related to childcare licensure requirements when applicable.
  • Provide assistance with activities and duties that implement the total school program and help maintain an encouraging, caring, safe, and healthy environment.
  • Aid teachers with planning and organizing, evaluating instructional activities, developing classroom licensure procedures, and preparing lesson materials.
  • Work with individual students and specific groups of students in different pre-kindergarten licensed classrooms or school areas as needed.
  • Participate in district staff development and continued professional growth.
  • Compile, maintain, and file reports, records, and other required documents while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Coordinate and assist students with special health care needs, including personal hygiene, restroom functions, diapering, mobility assistance, lifting, positioning, transferring, behavioral assistance, and Crisis Prevention and Intervention skills.
  • Support teachers in coordinating instructional programs for special education students, including familiarity with students' individualized education programs.
  • Assist teachers with strategies for implementing students' behavioral intervention plans.
  • Assist teachers with implementing low- and high-tech assistive technology and augmentative communication devices to meet class-wide and individual student needs.
  • Use standard office equipment, including computers, scanners, and copiers.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
  • For Pre-K Special Education and Blended programs, experience working with or assisting individuals with special needs.
