Requirements
  • An earned Master's degree is required; a Doctorate in nursing or a related field is preferred.
  • A current California Public Health Certificate or eligibility for certification in California is required.
  • Three years of work experience as a public health or community health nurse in California is required.
  • An unencumbered California registered nurse license or eligibility for licensure in California is required.
  • Candidates must demonstrate excellent written and oral communication, the ability to read and write clear documents, and the ability to function effectively both as a team member and independently.
  • Candidates must be able to communicate and receive detailed information through verbal and written communication.
  • Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to caring science principles and mindfulness-based stress reduction practices central to the program's culture and expected outcomes.
  • Candidates must model appropriate ethical and professional behaviors and expert communication skills.
  • Candidates must embrace the mission, vision, and values of the program, school of nursing, and university.
Responsibilities
  • Create a dynamic, learner-centered environment using varied teaching methods that support diverse student learning needs and are based on educational theory and evidence-based teaching and clinical practices.
  • Model reflective and critical thinking, coach and mentor students, confer with them about their progress, and assist them in developing learning plans to achieve course objectives.
  • Maintain and enhance competence in the subjects being taught.
  • Confer with colleagues to ensure the integrity of courses across programs and the curriculum.
  • Prepare and review written examinations, papers, and student projects.
  • Notify the Course Manager of at-risk students and issues at clinical sites.
  • Supervise or teach clinical rotations as needed in acute, community, and laboratory settings and internship or preceptorship courses.
  • Document student progress on appropriate forms.
  • Participate in Faculty Organization meetings, College of Nursing Faculty meetings, University or College committees, University and College of Nursing events, and other assigned duties.
  • Provide service to the nursing profession and the community.
  • Clarify the nursing curriculum and interpretation of programmatic requirements with students.
  • Provide information so students can make appropriate academic decisions.
  • Increase student awareness of available educational resources.
  • Discuss student academic progress and progression toward educational goals.
  • Refer students to institutional and community support services where appropriate.
  • Forward appropriate student information regarding needs and preferences that could influence policy setting in the College of Nursing and enhance the learning environment.
Desired Qualifications
  • Teaching experience with diverse students at the baccalaureate or higher degree level.
  • Experience working with leadership in healthcare academic institutions and community organizations.
