- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant or Medical Specialist program, or an equivalent amount of work experience as a Medical Assistant, is required.
- A high school diploma is required.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification is required.
- The role requires lifting up to 35 pounds and performing turning, walking, standing, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.

- Escort patients to rooms, obtain vital signs and electrocardiograms, verify medications, allergies, medical histories, and chief complaints, and document accurate information in patient charts.
- Route phone messages, patient questions, and telephone communications to appropriate personnel.
- Act as a liaison between the physician or advanced practice provider and the patient, communicate test results, answer questions, and assist with return calls.
- Assist with medication renewals and authorizations and administer oral, intramuscular, and subcutaneous medications as ordered.
- Perform point-of-care laboratory testing and obtain blood samples and other specimens for laboratory testing as ordered.
- Schedule appointments, surgeries, diagnostic procedures, and admissions as ordered; complete paperwork, prior authorizations, referrals, and documentation.
- Monitor supply inventory and clean and stock examination areas.
- Set up patients or guardians for MyChart and educate them about its benefits.
- Assist in orienting and training new medical assistants.
- Work independently, accept accountability, handle change, stay focused under pressure, work as part of a team, and meet attendance and punctuality requirements.
- One year of Medical Assistant or other medical specialist experience is preferred but not required.
- Medical clinic experience is preferred.
- Registered Medical Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant certification through an approved accrediting organization, such as the American Medical Technologists, is preferred.

July 10, 2026 ROLLA, Mo. - The Phelps Health Marketing and Public Relations Department was recently recognized for excellence in healthcare advertising and marketing. The Marketing Department earned seven Aster Awards in a national competition hosted by Creative Images, Inc. Now in their 25th year, the Aster Awards recognize outstanding creativity and professionalism in healthcare advertising, marketing and communications. Phelps Health has a history of winning awards from this organization. "I'm incredibly proud of our Marketing team for being recognized with five Gold Awards and two Silver Awards this year," said Carlos Martinez, associate vice president of experience strategy and engagement at Phelps Health. The Aster Awards were presented for work completed in 2025. Entries were judged against submissions from similar-sized organizations across the United States. Phelps Health director honored with national Respiratory Care award. * Phelps Health * 23 hrs ago Phelps Health is proud to announce that Cheryl Hoerr, director of Respiratory and Sleep Services, has received a Life Membership award from the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC). This national honor recognizes her many years of leadership, service and contributions to the field of respiratory care. Cheryl has been part of the Phelps Health team since 2009. She has spent more than 45 years advancing respiratory care through education, advocacy and mentoring others at both the state and national levels. "I'm here, on this stage, receiving this award, because I said 'yes,'" Cheryl said in her acceptance speech. "There are so many opportunities out there, and I encourage you to say 'yes.'" The AARC Life Membership award is given to people who show outstanding commitment to the profession and the association "Life Membership is not just about time in the profession; it's about leadership, service and making a real difference," said AARC President Dana Evans at the AARC International Congress held in December 2025. "Cheryl has held many leadership roles, including President of the Missouri Society for Respiratory Care and AARC Vice President of Internal Affairs. She has given more than 100 presentations across the U.S. and internationally, written multiple publications, and taken part in research. As a respiratory therapy manager and director, she has guided high-quality, patient-centered care and mentored future professionals. Cheryl's work is an inspiration to the field." Cheryl stays involved in both state and national organizations to keep up with changes in respiratory care and bring back knowledge and resources to support local respiratory therapists at Phelps Health.
