Requirements
  • A minimum of 5 years of mechanical drafting and design experience at a mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering firm or architecture-engineering firm is required.
  • An Associate degree in Drafting and Design is desired but not required.
  • Proficiency in Revit is required.
  • Proficiency in fire protection, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, mechanical, plumbing, and mechanical utility systems is required.
  • Proficiency in mechanical concepts including psychrometrics, heat transfer, and compressible and incompressible fluid flow is required.
  • The ability to interpret a Basis of Design, field surveys, and code research is required.
  • The ability to develop and implement design criteria and system designs from concept through detailed design and construction is required.
  • The ability to use design tools including the psychrometric chart, Ductulator, and Pipe Flow is required.
  • The ability to perform system calculations and size and select system components is required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
  • U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent residency is required.
Responsibilities
  • Support heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, plumbing, fire protection, and process piping design efforts for the firm.
  • Execute drafting and design duties to maintain design quality.
  • Apply personal judgment and information to implement design criteria.
  • Apply design principles to resolve assigned design problems and tasks.
  • Direct and mentor subordinate staff regarding their daily responsibilities.
  • Implement criteria for distribution systems, research applicable codes, and investigate system routing options and equipment room layouts.
  • Coordinate the layout of distribution systems and equipment locations with discipline team members and project team members in other disciplines.
  • Perform system calculations and size and select system components.
  • Review shop drawing submittals and travel to job sites to perform field verification.
  • Author Bases of Design narratives, design criteria documents, reports, and other technical written documents.
  • Edit design specifications, respond to Requests for Information using project documents and design criteria, and prepare meeting notes.
  • Read relevant project correspondence and maintain project design files.
  • Work to meet deadlines as required by client demands.
