About the job

Requirements
  • Seven to ten years of engineering experience, including two to three years leading or managing engineers.
  • Experience leading distributed teams across multiple locations and time zones.
  • Ownership of a delivery backlog and roadmap, including prioritisation, scoping, and translating strategy into a plan for a platform-as-a-product or internal developer platform.
  • Decisive technical judgement to resolve competing technical opinions and make final calls while relying on technical experts for design.
  • A collaborative, consultative leadership style and the ability to coach engineers, support their growth, and manage their performance.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • A strong platform or infrastructure engineering background, including hands-on experience with AWS services such as EC2, ECS, RDS, and networking; containerised environments such as Docker and ECS; and observability tools such as Datadog and CloudWatch.
  • Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD experience using CloudFormation, Troposphere, or Terraform, and GitHub Actions or Jenkins, plus strong Python skills for automation and platform tooling.
Responsibilities
  • Lead Platform engineers day to day through regular one-to-ones, performance and career development, team health and engagement, capacity and workload management, hiring and onboarding, and addressing performance or behavioural issues.
  • Own the Platform backlog as its product owner; prioritise, scope, assign ownership, and make work visible across locations and time zones; deliver agreed outcomes; and manage dependencies and trade-offs across projects, operational work, and technical maintenance.
  • Translate the SVP of Technology’s strategy into a prioritised roadmap covering infrastructure automation, CI/CD, developer enablement, shared tooling, release safety, reliability, and reducing manual work; make final calls on platform technology choices and resolve ties using authority delegated by the SVP, documenting decisions and aligning them with wider strategy.
  • Involve CloudOps early and agree operational requirements for monitoring and alerting, recovery, support expectations, access, runbooks, handover, and acceptance criteria so work is operationally ready.
  • Represent the Platform team with Engineering, Product, and other stakeholders; communicate priorities, progress, risks, dependencies, and escalations; and ensure incoming work is refined and prioritised.
  • Ensure consistent engineering standards and effective, high-quality delivery practices across a distributed team, and foster collaboration within Platform, with CloudOps, and across the wider business.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with SaltStack or similar configuration management.
  • Experience modernising platforms and implementing stack changes pragmatically when they provide clear value.
  • Experience handling large data volumes, including data storage, retention, and scaling.
  • SaaS experience.
  • Exposure to FinOps or cloud cost optimisation.
  • Experience enabling AI-assisted or agentic software delivery.
