Requirements
  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and current licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Physician Assistant, or completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program and current licensure or eligibility for licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification or American Red Cross Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification.
  • DHEC and DEA license applications must be started before the first day.
  • The role requires effective clinical skills, direct patient care experience, active listening, critical thinking, professional and caring patient interaction, verbal and written communication skills, and commitment to quality improvement and evidence-based medicine.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care on medical/surgical and rehabilitation units.
  • Take comprehensive histories and perform physical examinations.
  • Evaluate and treat patients based on history, physical examination, radiological, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline.
  • Streamline timely inpatient discharges.
  • Coordinate care between physicians, nurses, and subspecialty teams.
  • Initiate referrals to other health care providers and consult with the attending or collaborating physician.
  • Document and bill for direct care provided in the Epic electronic medical record.
  • Use current research and evidence-based decision-making in clinical practice.
  • Perform and participate in quality and performance improvement activities and clinical research.
  • Participate in and support organizational accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities.
  • Interact with medical students, residents, and fellows.
  • Maintain professional practice through active participation in required licenses, certifications, continuing nursing education, and continuing medical education.
  • Potentially precept advanced practice provider students at MUSC and facilitate the learning of new team members.
Desired Qualifications
  • Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner certification for acutely ill or injured pediatric patients, including potentially unstable or technologically dependent patients.
  • One year of pediatric subspecialty experience with inpatient pediatric care and physical medicine and rehabilitation medicine or pediatric neurology.
