Baptist to add 40 beds, PAM Health to build new rehab hospital.

Baptist to add 40 beds, PAM Health to build new rehab hospital. Pensacola News Journal Oct. 20, 2026, 4:04 a.m. CT * Baptist Hospital will add 40 acute care beds, increasing its capacity from 279 to 319 beds. The new beds are expected to open in March or April 2027 * PAM Health will build a freestanding 60-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital at Baptist Medical Park - Nine Mile. It's estimated to open in either late 2028 or early 2029 * The expanded partnership addresses growing demand for hospital care across Northwest Florida and South Alabama, driven partly by population growth and an aging population To meet the community's growing demand for medical services, Baptist Health Care and PAM Health are expanding their partnership to add 40 acute care beds at Baptist Hospital and build a new 60-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital on Nine Mile Road. The revised agreement will increase Baptist Hospital's bed count from 279 to 319 while allowing PAM Health to develop a larger, freestanding rehabilitation facility at Baptist Medical Park - Nine Mile. The changes represent a shift from the organizations' original plans, announced in early 2025, to establish a 40-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital inside the Henderson Health Center on Baptist's main campus. Instead, Baptist will retain that space and convert it into a 40-bed acute care unit, while PAM Health will build a separate rehabilitation hospital. Brett Aldridge, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Baptist Health Care, said the organizations reconsidered their original plans as Baptist's need for additional acute care beds became increasingly apparent. "What we really need on our campus is additional hospital beds," Aldridge said. Aldridge attributed the growing demand to an increasing and aging population, noting that rising hospital utilization is not unique to Baptist. "Our community has a very clear need for additional inpatient acute care beds," Aldridge said. "This collaboration with PAM Health allows us to address critical capacity needs at Baptist Hospital while investing together in a bigger vision for the rehabilitation needs of our community." The partnership allows Baptist to retain the Henderson Health Center space for its own inpatient needs while giving PAM Health an opportunity to build a larger rehabilitation facility designed specifically for patients recovering from serious illnesses and injuries. Expansion addresses growing regional demand. The plans are meant to ensure the community's growing needs for more hospital and rehabilitation care can be met. For Baptist, converting the Henderson Health Center space into an acute care unit will increase the number of patients the hospital can accommodate. For PAM Health, constructing a freestanding hospital will allow the organization to expand its planned rehabilitation services while developing facilities specifically designed for intensive therapy. "By expanding both inpatient capacity and rehabilitation services, we are creating greater access to high-quality care for our growing region," Aldridge said. "We are grateful for a partner whose mission and values align with our commitment to serving this community." The 40 new acute care beds at Baptist Hospital are expected to become operational in spring 2027, around March or April. PAM Health's 60-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital is estimated to open in either late 2028 or early 2029. New rehabilitation hospital will offer specialized care. The new PAM Health hospital will provide inpatient rehabilitation services for patients who no longer require acute hospital treatment but still need intensive therapy and medical supervision before they can safely return home. Those patients may include people recovering from strokes, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries and other serious medical conditions. Anthony Misitano, founder, chairman and chief executive officer of PAM Health, said the agreement creates an opportunity to develop a larger, purpose-built rehabilitation hospital without the limitations of converting space inside an existing facility. "When Baptist Health Care identified an urgent need for additional acute care capacity, we recognized an opportunity to think bigger," Misitano said. "A freestanding, 60-bed hospital allows us to design a rehabilitation hospital without space constraints, featuring state-of-the-art therapy gyms and robust clinical programs that will serve as a true destination for patients recovering from serious injury or illness." Misitano said rehabilitation plays a critical role in preventing hospital readmissions and helping patients continue their recovery after being discharged from acute care. The new facility will be designed to provide comprehensive rehabilitation services, with treatment plans tailored to patients' individual conditions and recovery goals. "Patients leaving acute care hospitals like Baptist often require an extra level of specialized therapy to prevent readmissions and to build upon their progress," he said.

Greater chamber members gather to network and get updates at Annual Meeting.

Greater chamber members gather to network and get updates at Annual Meeting. Greater San Antonio Chamber members recently gathered at The Doseum to learn more about the chamber's initiatives during the Annual All Members Meeting & Mixer, presented by PAM Health. Themed "Think Big, Play Together," the event had a playful vibe with fun attractions and entertainment, including horses from the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, an appearance by the Spurs Coyote and other mascots, scooter demonstrations by Bird, and much more. The main draw was a fireside chat moderated by Chuck Cureau, SeaWorld San Antonio's Public Relations Director, and featuring Kevin Dinnin, Greater San Antonio Chamber Chair and FirstDay Foundation President & CEO, and Jeff Webster, Greater San Antonio Chamber President & CEO. This discussion touched on everything from the city budget shortfall, and the new Spurs arena, to the redevelopment of the Coliseum grounds for the Stock Show & Rodeo, and the business community's vision for San Antonio. "To make San Antonio a truly world-class city, we need to continue focusing our energy on attracting good-paying jobs anchored in key industries, like advanced manufacturing, healthcare, cybersecurity, aerospace and defense. We need to grow our role as Military City, USA by attracting additional missions and investments to our military installations. And we need to take the next step in developing our downtown, so it's filled with businesses, restaurants, entertainment attractions, housing, and public spaces that attract residents and visitors alike," he said. Dinnin shared his thoughts on how local leaders can work together to fulfill San Antonio's potential. "It will take a shared vision, sustained investment and a willingness to work together across the public and private sectors to fulfill our vision. We need to develop the next generation of business leaders to help shape an exciting vision for the future of our community and coalesce support around the ideas and initiatives that will move our community forward," Dinnin said. The event wrapped up with a call to local business leaders to get involved by joining the chamber's Councils and Committees, getting involved with its advocacy efforts, engaging with other leaders at events, and serving as proponents for the business community's priorities.
