Requirements
  • At least ten (10) years of experience, including a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in data science and machine learning and at least five (5) years in a leadership or managerial role.
  • A proven track record of leading artificial intelligence and machine learning projects from conception to production.
  • Experience with cloud artificial intelligence platforms such as Azure Machine Learning and Google Cloud Platform Vertex AI, and/or on-premises machine learning operations setups.
  • Direct experience in managed care and healthcare analytics, including claims data, care management, utilization, risk adjustment, member engagement, or related areas.
  • Exposure to multimodal artificial intelligence applications involving text, image, audio, or video.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, KServe, Ray, or MLflow for scaling artificial intelligence workloads.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Familiarity with basic principles of distributed computing and/or distributed databases.
  • Working knowledge of diagnosis and procedure coding, medical terminology, managed care, claims payment processes, and insurance terminology.
  • Familiarity with data governance, model interpretability, bias mitigation, and artificial intelligence ethics.
  • Strong analysis and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, PyTorch, TensorFlow, LangChain, Hugging Face, or an equivalent framework.
  • Ability to manipulate large datasets using databases and general-purpose programming languages or big data frameworks, including R, Python, JavaScript, Java, and SQL.
  • Ability to understand new concepts down to the theorems and develop original solutions to mathematical issues.
  • Ability to multitask while maintaining attention to detail, handle multiple projects and data input, solve problems, work independently, meet deadlines, and address competing priorities.
  • Expertise in generative artificial intelligence, including large language models, transformers, embeddings, vector databases, retrieval-augmented generation, fine-tuning, and prompt engineering.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to translate technical solutions into executive-level impact stories.
  • Willingness to be on call occasionally for technical issues outside normal business hours.
Responsibilities
  • Lead and mentor a team of data scientists, machine learning engineers, and artificial intelligence specialists.
  • Define and execute the enterprise roadmap for artificial intelligence, machine learning, and generative artificial intelligence initiatives.
  • Partner with business and technology stakeholders to identify artificial intelligence use cases that create measurable value.
  • Advocate for responsible artificial intelligence practices and ensure solutions are ethical, explainable, secure, and compliant.
  • Oversee development of advanced predictive, prescriptive, and generative machine learning models and artificial intelligence systems.
  • Design and implement generative artificial intelligence solutions, including large language model fine-tuning, embeddings, retrieval-augmented generation, and prompt optimization.
  • Drive end-to-end machine learning operations practices covering model training, evaluation, deployment, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
  • Ensure scalability and performance of artificial intelligence solutions within enterprise data platforms.
  • Collaborate with data engineering to optimize data pipelines for artificial intelligence workloads.
  • Evaluate emerging generative artificial intelligence, multimodal artificial intelligence, and machine learning techniques for relevance and application.
  • Foster experimentation and rapid prototyping.
  • Hire, train, and manage support staff while monitoring and evaluating outcomes.
  • Conduct performance reviews for each team member within IEHP guidelines.
  • Perform other duties required to support health plan operations and department business needs.
