What believers are saying

  • Q2 2026 set records: $1.3 billion sales, $166 million EBITDA, and 38.1% margin.
  • Management raised 2026 EBITDA growth guidance to 45%–55% on packaging mix and aerospace recovery.
  • Fourth coating line ramped, and Q3 2026 earnings call is scheduled for October 22.

What critics are saying

  • NLRB case 25-CA-381479 opened February 19, 2026 over unilateral contract changes.
  • Aerospace destocking still hit plate products in 2026, and Boeing-rate weakness would pressure volume.
  • A metal-lag reversal and packaging ramp miss would erase 2026 margin gains fast.

What makes Kaiser Aluminum unique

  • Kaiser’s metal-neutral model and pass-through pricing protect margins from aluminum swings.
  • Its Trentwood and Warrick plants supply aerospace, packaging, and high-strength niches with qualification barriers.
  • September 2026 CEO Fred Stephan brings industrial-operations depth across 200-plus plants.

Kaiser Aluminum sinks 23% as Q3 earnings miss, with $1.89 EPS and margin down to 19.1%

Kaiser Aluminum shares fell 23% after third-quarter adjusted earnings per share of $1.89 missed estimates. Its adjusted EBITDA margin slid to 19.1% from 23.2% a year earlier. Most of the drop came from a roughly $29 million swing in metal price lag, which the company expected. Adjusted EBITDA still grew 3% to $84 million, while conversion revenue rose 25% to $439 million. Operational problems cost about 6.4 points of margin. They included a planned outage at its Bellwood plant, higher metal costs from using less scrap, and start-up costs in packaging. Kaiser now expects 2026 adjusted EBITDA growth near the low end of its 45% to 55% range. Fred Stephan becomes chief executive officer on November 1.

UBS upgrades Kaiser Aluminum to buy after 19% drop from August high

UBS upgraded Kaiser Aluminum to buy on 31 August, raising its price target to $184 from $179, roughly 18% above the trading price. Analyst Alex Stansbury reversed his neutral stance after shares fell 19% from their August record high of $199.89. UBS identified three temporary concerns that triggered the selloff: uncertainty over USMCA renegotiation, a CEO transition with Fred Stephan replacing Keith Harvey effective 1 November, and doubts about scrap profit margins. The bank argues investors overlooked improving fundamentals. Kaiser posted record second-quarter results with adjusted earnings of $5.53 per share on $1.3 billion revenue, beating Wall Street expectations. UBS views the drop as an opportunity to buy a stronger company at a discount.
