Requirements
  • Registered nurses working in specialty areas must meet the requirements determined by the applicable specialty discipline.
  • A current, valid New Hampshire Registered Nurse license is required.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of clinical nursing experience is required.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certification is required.
  • Basic Dysrhythmia certification is required.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute advanced training is required within 6 months of hire for the Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute advanced dementia training is required within 6 months of hire for Senior Behavioral Health.
  • NRP is required within 60 days of hire for Maternal Child Health.
  • PALS is required before completion of orientation for Urgent Care, Maternal Child Health, and PACU; before assuming care for a critically ill pediatric patient in the Emergency Department, with ENPC accepted in place of PALS.
  • TNCC is required within 18 months of hire for the Emergency Department.
  • TCAR is required within 1 year of hire for the Intensive Care Unit and PACU.
Responsibilities
  • Support and promote the mission and values of Covenant Health Ministry.
  • Assist the Clinical Nurse Manager, Director, and Senior Nursing Director with performance improvement plans and progressive discipline as needed, and mentor staff for self-improvement.
  • Perform clinical nursing duties as directed by the department manager or director to meet unit and patient-care demands.
  • Develop an overall view of patients, families, and caregivers and establish partnerships with them to deliver optimal care.
  • Use the Electronic Medical Record with knowledge and understanding to support departmental teams and maintain accountability for use and documentation.
  • Attend unit-level meetings and nursing councils or committees to assess standards of practice and disseminate professional-practice information.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to identify and implement patient-care initiatives that support high-quality care.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate practice improvements using quality tools; support and lead the unit advisory council and promote shared governance.
  • Educate the nursing team on the organization's strategic plan and quality scorecard and participate in developing the unit-based department alignment board.
  • Participate in planning, implementing, and evaluating patient outcomes for a defined cohort of patients.
  • Ensure continuous assessment and improvement of services through department auditing and active participation in nursing councils or committees.
  • Assist in meeting the requirements of outside regulatory agencies, including DNV and CMS, as appropriate to the service area.
  • Use established nursing standards and policies when designing patient care in accordance with New Hampshire Board of Nursing and American Nurses Association guidelines.
  • Maintain knowledge of hospital policies and procedures and disseminate updated and new policies to staff.
  • Incorporate evidence-based practice into clinical care delivered by self and others.
  • Collaborate with Nursing Leadership and Education to improve staff competency and patient-care delivery.
  • Incorporate performance-improvement data, current evidence-based practices, and adult learning theory into nursing professional-development practice.
  • Participate actively in department huddles and the organization's daily safety huddle.
  • Act as a unit champion for new products and services implemented at the unit or hospital level.
  • Remain visible and accessible and communicate effectively with staff.
  • Organize, manage, and evaluate the function of a team.
  • Act as the tele-neurology designee as needed.
  • Maintain a flexible schedule to ensure adequate communication and training for staff on all shifts.
  • Assist and collaborate with the department Clinical Nurse Manager and/or Directors to complete, balance, and timely post the staffing schedule.
  • Support the department Clinical Nurse Manager and/or Directors in completing annual reviews and career interviews within the applicable month.
  • Assist the Clinical Nurse Manager and/or Directors in reviewing payroll daily and ensuring department productivity is met.
  • Mentor staff enrolled in clinical advancement, new preceptors, and unit charge registered nurses.
  • Give and receive constructive criticism and implement change.
  • Participate in and support hourly rounding and daily leadership rounding.
  • Demonstrate professionalism through adversity and provide customer-service recovery.
  • Use a multidisciplinary approach to provide age-friendly environments throughout the organization.
  • Collaborate with Clinical Nursing Education to plan and provide annual skills training.
  • Assist the Clinical Nurse Manager and/or Directors with onboarding new hires, ensure competencies are met, and collaborate with Clinical Nursing Education on successful onboarding throughout orientation.
Desired Qualifications
  • Successful completion of an approved School of Nursing is strongly preferred.
  • An Associate of Science in Nursing or Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree is preferred.
  • NIHSS certification is preferred or must be obtained before completion of orientation for the Emergency Department, Urgent Care, PACU, and ICU.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute training is preferred or must be obtained before completion of orientation.
  • Membership in a professional organization is preferred.
  • NRP is preferred for applicable roles, with completion required within 60 days of hire for Maternal Child Health.
  • PALS is preferred for applicable roles, with completion required before the specified patient-care or orientation milestones.
  • TNCC is preferred for the Emergency Department, with completion required within 18 months of hire.
  • TCAR is preferred for the Intensive Care Unit and PACU, with completion required within 1 year of hire.
