Requirements
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent working knowledge.
  • Graduation from an accredited medical assisting program or completion of an approved medical assistant training program as defined by state regulations.
  • Medical Assistant Certification or Medical Assistant Registration.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification, with competency in cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques for adults, children, and infants demonstrated every other year through a nationally recognized, standardized, credentialed healthcare provider course.
  • At least 1 year of medical clerical experience, preferably in a hospital or physician office setting, or prior customer service experience.
  • Organizational skills, human relations and communication skills, working knowledge of medical terminology, computer literacy, and keyboarding skills.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare patients for examinations and treatment by taking and recording vital signs, symptoms, measurements, chief complaints, and pain scores, and report condition changes to clinicians.
  • Assist providers with examinations and minor in-office procedures, including measuring blood pressure, respiration, heart rate and pulse, temperature, ear irrigation, and electrocardiograms; act as a chaperone when needed.
  • Use universal blood and body fluid precautions and personal protective equipment as required.
  • Prioritize patient flow through the clinical process.
  • Coordinate and manage patient care, including pre-certifications, authorizations, prescriptions, and patient scheduling.
  • Communicate test results to patients and support clinicians in providing optimal patient care.
  • Administer medications in accordance with established policies and procedures or clinician direction.
  • Provide clerical support for patient notifications and documentation, including medical records, laboratory records, authorizations, X-rays, hospital records, and prior care information.
  • Provide complete and accurate billing information for patient encounters in a timely manner.
  • Clean and disinfect equipment, examination rooms, and storage areas; disinfect equipment and instruments according to sterilization procedures.
  • Follow manufacturer recommendations and Occupational Safety and Health Administration guidelines when handling hazardous substances.
  • Perform basic equipment maintenance and coordinate repairs.
  • Order supplies, stock patient-care areas, and monitor inventory of medications, injectables, and immunizations, including expired items, equipment, and recalls.
  • Maintain effective communication with internal and external customers and provide service-oriented interactions.
  • Complete required onboarding, orientation, and simulation training activities.
  • Perform all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, and applicable professional standards.
