About the Job

Requirements

  • Substantial professional experience in direct-response copywriting over several years, writing for real offers with meaningful traffic.
  • A portfolio containing both long-form and short-form funnel copy.
  • Significant experience writing for cold traffic and proven experience in direct-to-consumer ecommerce, direct response, or another measurable-response environment.
  • Evidence that prior work generated meaningful revenue or measurable conversion improvement.
  • Experience writing complete funnels, including advertorials, listicles, sales pages, quizzes, checkouts, and post-purchase upsells.
  • Experience in health, wellness, supplements, or another claims-sensitive category, and understanding how to build belief when the benefit is not visually demonstrable.
  • A strong grasp of customer awareness, market sophistication, offers, mechanisms, leads, proof, objections, and risk reversal.
  • Ability to conduct and synthesize deep customer research into a clear hypothesis and persuasive argument.
  • Strong analytical fluency and comfort with funnel performance data, including diagnosing where a funnel loses customers.
  • Working understanding of average order value, revenue per visitor, upsell take rates, gross margin, and contribution margin.
  • Experience creating and evaluating conversion tests, and ability to distinguish correlation, noise, and meaningful evidence.
  • Strong AI fluency, with evidence of using AI within a real research, writing, or analysis workflow.
  • Ability to write quickly without sacrificing strategic depth, challenge weak briefs or assumptions, and change direction when data disproves an idea.
  • Communication skills to work with founders, media buyers, designers, and analysts, and potential to train and lead additional writers as the function grows.
  • Ability to overlap consistently with the collaboration window of 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

Responsibilities

  • Own post-click messaging strategy and conversion copy, participate in marketing, campaign, and offer planning, understand the needs of each traffic source after the click, and maintain message continuity across advertisements, presell pages, sales pages, checkout, and upsell journeys.
  • Recommend funnel formats based on the offer, traffic source, customer awareness, and market sophistication, and determine when campaigns need advertorials, listicles, quizzes, long-form or short-form pages, or other structures.
  • Collaborate with media buyers and creative strategists to understand the promise behind each click and identify disconnects between advertising messages and landing-page experiences.
  • Research customers using reviews, surveys, support tickets, interviews, call transcripts, refund reasons, and community discussions; study competitor offers, positioning, mechanisms, pricing, and funnel structures.
  • Identify customer desires, fears, frustrations, failed solutions, objections, and buying triggers; assess awareness and market sophistication; distinguish stated wants from behavioral signals; maintain voice-of-customer libraries; validate claims; and turn research into usable copy insights.
  • Develop a clear hypothesis for each meaningful funnel project by identifying the target metric or stage, diagnosing underperformance, defining the customer insight and proposed change, selecting success and guardrail metrics, and determining what result would validate or invalidate the idea.
  • Write and optimize offer positioning, unique mechanisms, big ideas, hooks and leads, advertorials, listicles, quiz flows, long- and short-form sales pages, product detail pages, offer sections, pricing and bundle presentations, guarantees, checkout copy, order bumps, post-purchase upsells, downsells, cross-sells, funnel transitions, calls to action, and supporting briefs for page graphics and visual proof.
  • Develop major long-form funnels from a blank page and identify and rewrite critical sections in existing funnels.
  • Evaluate and recommend changes to positioning, price, quantities, bundles, discounts, bonuses, guarantees, payment options, shipping thresholds, subscription structures, order bumps, upsell sequencing, and offer continuity.
  • Understand offer economics, including selling price, cost of goods, pick and pack, shipping, payment processing, discounts, refunds, chargebacks, subscription take rates, upsell margins, gross and contribution margin, customer acquisition cost, and revenue and profit per visitor; judge tests using full-funnel economics.
  • After launch, confirm the correct copy is live, review performance against controls and across funnel steps, segment where appropriate, compare mobile and desktop and traffic sources, use heatmaps and behavioral data where useful, assess primary and guardrail metrics, document results and learning, and recommend next actions.
  • Build and maintain a searchable archive of tests and results, identify recurring patterns, distinguish reliable principles from insufficient data, turn repeatable winners into frameworks, and prevent failed concepts from being unknowingly repeated.
  • Use and improve AI-assisted systems for research synthesis, voice-of-customer clustering, transcript and review analysis, competitor and mechanism research, angle and hypothesis generation, outlines, drafts and variations, objection identification, quality control, claim consistency review, funnel analysis, and test documentation.
  • Build structured AI processes using relevant context, approved source material, brand knowledge, customer research, historical winners, founder frameworks, quality criteria, and review stages.
  • Work directly with founders, learn their frameworks and decision-making, and gradually take ownership of routine funnel copy so founders no longer need to write, rewrite, or independently double-check it before launch.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with high-volume Meta, native, Google, or affiliate traffic; post-purchase upsell funnels; portfolio or multi-brand environments; CRO or direct-response agencies; subscription offers; or building copy systems or training programs is advantageous.
