Gemini secures full MPI license from Singapore's MAS, strengthening APAC regulatory foothold

Gemini has secured a full Major Payment Institution license from Singapore's Monetary Authority, strengthening its regulatory position in Asia-Pacific. The licence authorises Gemini Digital Payments Singapore to provide regulated digital payment token services. Under Singapore's Payment Services Act, Major Payment Institutions face comprehensive regulatory requirements including customer money protection safeguards. The approval follows in-principle approval granted in October 2024. Gemini joins 37 other Major Payment Institutions providing digital payment token services in Singapore, including Coinbase Singapore, Circle Internet Singapore, and BitGo Singapore. The exchange currently offers spot trading, digital asset custody, and over-the-counter services to retail and institutional clients in Singapore. "Securing the MPI licence from MAS validates our commitment and investment into Singapore," said Gemini co-founder Cameron Winklevoss.

Joint operation by police, crypto exchanges stops scam victims from losing almost $9 million.

Joint operation by police, crypto exchanges stops scam victims from losing almost $9 million. Published Sep 03, 2026, 11:15 PM Updated Sep 03, 2026, 11:35 PM SINGAPORE - More than 355 victims avoided losing over $8.94 million to cryptocurrency scams in July and August thanks to a joint operation by the police and digital payment token (DPT) service providers. In a statement on Sept 3, the police said the fourth anti-cryptocurrency scam operation took place from July 1 to Aug 31. The Singapore Police Force's Cyber Command partnered DPT service providers, including Coinbase, Coinhako, DTCPay, Gemini, Independent Reserve, OKX, StraitsX and Upbit. The police said officers conducted advanced blockchain analysis using tools from industry leaders Chainalysis and TRM Labs to identify victims of different types of scams, including government officials impersonation, investment and job scams. Participating DPT service providers supplied customer information that helped to identify victims, allowing officers to intervene over the phone and in-person, preventing millions of dollars in losses. The police said they also shared blockchain intelligence derived from the operation with foreign law enforcement counterparts, including the United States' Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Cybercrime Squad New South Wales Police Force. This led to the identification of 50 overseas victims.

Gemini wins arbitration over collapsed Earn programme, Genesis blamed for fraud

Gemini Space Station won an arbitration ruling on 12 August dismissing claims that it misled users or bore responsibility for its collapsed Earn lending programme. The ruling rejected a late 2024 claim from an Earn user seeking damages for emotional distress. Arbitrators concluded Gemini did not deceive customers or inadequately vet Genesis Global Capital, its lending partner. Instead, they blamed Genesis and parent company Digital Currency Group for perpetrating fraud that eluded auditors and regulators. Earn launched in 2021, offering up to 7.4% annual interest. It collapsed in November 2022 when Genesis halted operations during a sector-wide crisis. All deposits were eventually returned to roughly 300,000 users in 2024. Gemini settled separate claims with New York's attorney general for $50 million.

Gemini launches stop market orders for Active Trader platform.

Gemini launches stop market orders for Active Trader platform. The Winklevoss-founded exchange adds automated trade execution with built-in slippage protection for spot trading pairs 2 hours ago Gemini just rolled out stop market orders on its ActiveTrader interface, giving spot traders a tool that most competing platforms have offered for years. It's a straightforward addition, but one that fills a notable gap in the exchange's professional trading toolkit. The feature lets users set a stop price that, once crossed by the last traded price, automatically fires off a market order. Buy stops must be placed above the current price, sell stops below it. The orders come with a 10% slippage tolerance baked in, which acts as a guardrail against getting filled at a wildly unfavorable price during sudden moves. How it works and why it matters. The distinction from stop-limit orders, which Gemini has supported since November 2019, is important. A stop-limit order triggers a limit order at a specified price, meaning it might not fill at all if the market blows past your limit during a fast move. A stop market order sacrifices price precision for execution certainty. The 10% slippage tolerance means your market order won't chase a price that's moved more than 10% from your stop level, offering some protection against flash crash scenarios where you'd get filled at an absurd price. ActiveTrader currently supports over 100 spot trading pairs denominated in USD, GUSD, and select other currencies, covering major assets like BTC, ETH, and SOL. The stop market order feature applies across these pairs. Part of a broader ActiveTrader overhaul. This isn't an isolated product update. Gemini has been steadily upgrading its professional trading interface, with the most significant recent milestone being the launch of ActiveTrader 2.0 on August 10, 2026. That update brought interactive charts and real-time visibility into open positions and orders. Stop-limit orders arrived in November 2019. Standard market and limit orders have been staples of the platform since its early days. The focus on speed, customization, and usability signals that Gemini is making a deliberate play for high-volume traders. The competitive landscape. Gemini has historically positioned itself as the compliance-first, institutional-friendly exchange. The Winklevoss-founded platform has leaned into regulatory credibility as a differentiator, sometimes at the cost of moving slower on product features. Adding professional trading tools without compromising that regulatory posture is the balancing act the company continues to navigate. Disclosure: This article was edited by Editorial Team.
