What believers are saying

  • Phone growth is back: Verizon added 184,000 postpaid phones from April to June 2026.
  • Home internet is growing: it added 193,000 5G home and 155,000 fiber customers in the quarter ended June 2026.
  • School gets subsidized: Verizon's careers site lists $5,250 a year in tuition assistance for employees.

What critics are saying

  • More cuts are planned: in January 2026 leadership targeted $5 billion in 2026 savings, largely from job cuts.
  • Debt grew with Frontier: Verizon paid $9.8 billion cash and took on $12.9 billion of debt in January 2026.
  • Core revenue grows slowly: mobility and broadband service revenue rose 2.8% in the second quarter of 2026.

Analyst says Verizon has "no differentiation" as SpaceX's $8B spectrum deal hits carriers

SpaceX agreed on October 8 to buy Grain Management's nationwide 800 MHz spectrum for Starlink Mobile, in a deal The Wall Street Journal valued at around $8 billion. Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile US each fell more than 10% the next day. LightShed Partners analyst Walter Piecyk says Verizon is most exposed. "What is Verizon's differentiation in the market right now? They have none," he said, arguing T-Mobile now has the best network. Verizon's revenue rose from $134 billion in fiscal 2021 to $138 billion in fiscal 2025, while total debt reached $185 billion. The deal needs Federal Communications Commission approval. SpaceX expects upgraded Starlink Mobile service by the end of 2027, and Verizon reports third-quarter results on October 26.

Verizon over PepsiCo: why a 6.2% yield with cash to spare wins for 20 years

Verizon beats PepsiCo as the dividend stock to hold for 20 years, according to an analysis by TIKR, because its payout has more cash behind it. Verizon yields 6.2% and paid 54% of its free cash flow as dividends in the twelve months to June 30, 2026. It expects free cash flow to grow 9% to 10% this year. Its main risk is debt, at 3.35x EBITDA. PepsiCo yields 4.7% and raised its dividend 6.9% a year from fiscal 2020 to fiscal 2025. Those dividends took roughly all of its free cash flow in fiscal 2024 and 2025. On October 8, it cut its fiscal 2026 core EPS growth outlook to 2.5% to 3.5%. At their five-year growth rates, $10,000 in PepsiCo would pay about $19,123 over 20 years, against about $14,974 for Verizon.

Verizon will charge $10 a month for iPhone Handoff.

Verizon will charge $10 a month for iPhone Handoff. Friday October 16, 2026 4:37 pm PDT by Juli Clover Verizon plans to charge customers $10 per month for the iPhone Handoff feature that Apple added in iOS 27. iPhone Handoff allows one phone number to be shared across two separate iPhones. Pricing was included in Verizon's iPhone Duo announcement today, with the carrier confirming iPhone Handoff will work with the iPhone Duo and the iPhone 18 Pro models. Verizon will support iPhone Handoff, giving customers the flexibility to use a single Verizon phone number seamlessly across two compatible iPhone models. Whether using the pocketable iPhone Duo on the go or iPhone 18 Pro for work, customers can switch active status between devices at any time while keeping full access to Verizon's 5G network. iPhone Handoff will be available from Verizon for $10/month on compatible iPhones models running iOS 27. With iPhone Handoff, users can switch between a main iPhone and a companion iPhone at will, though a phone number can only be active on one iPhone at a time. Verizon says support is "coming soon," and Apple previously said Verizon would adopt the feature before the end of the year. U.S. carrier T-Mobile already supports iPhone Handoff, but charges just $5 per month for the feature. AT&T, the third major U.S. carrier, recently suggested it has no imminent plans to support iPhone Handoff. U.K. carrier EE also said this week that it will soon support iPhone Handoff. Customers who have EE's Full Works Plus plan will get iPhone Handoff free, while other EE users can get it for £5 per month. Deutsche Telekom in Germany is the only other carrier that's added iPhone Handoff support so far. It costs €6.95 per month, but the carrier includes it for free in the MagentaMobil L and XL plans.

Verizon beats General Mills as high-yield pick: 6.8% yield with growth vs 7.7% frozen

Verizon looks the better high-yield dividend stock than General Mills, despite a lower yield, according to a TIKR analysis. Verizon yields 6.8% against 7.7% at General Mills, but its dividend is still growing. Verizon's dividend took 54% of its $21.53 billion free cash flow over the twelve months to June 30, 2026. Management guides for free cash flow growth of 9% to 10% this year. The stock fell 8.7% on October 9 after SpaceX agreed to buy low-band spectrum for its Starlink phone service. General Mills' dividend took 85% of free cash flow. It plans to hold the payout flat while it cuts debt, and guides for fiscal 2027 adjusted earnings per share of $3.00 to $3.20, down from $4.52 in fiscal 2024. A $10,000 investment pays $770 a year from General Mills and $680 from Verizon.

Enterprise Products beats Verizon as high-yield pick: 6.2% yield, faster payout growth

Enterprise Products Partners is a better high-yield dividend stock than Verizon, according to a TIKR analysis comparing the two. Verizon yields 6.8% at its current rate, against 6.2% for Enterprise. Enterprise's payout grew 4% a year from 2020 to 2025, more than twice Verizon's 1.9%. Its distributable cash flow covered the payout 1.69x in 2025, with 1.91x expected in 2026. It is on track for a 28th straight year of distribution growth, and carries slightly less debt: 3.2x net debt to EBITDA against 3.35x for Verizon. Verizon's dividend looks safe, using 54% of free cash flow. It expects that cash flow to grow 9% to 10% this year, but faces new competition after SpaceX agreed to buy low-band spectrum for Starlink phone service. At their five-year growth rates, Enterprise's income would pass Verizon's around 2030.
