About the company

Zopa connects borrowers and savers through an online platform, offering personal loans, savings accounts, credit cards, and car finance in the UK. It uses a peer-to-peer lending model where individuals lend money directly to borrowers, bypassing traditional banks. The platform uses technology such as a soft credit check that does not affect credit ratings and can pre-approve loans quickly, often within 12 seconds. Revenue comes from loan fees and by offering other financial products. Zopa differentiates itself by being a pioneer in UK P2P lending, leveraging fast digital workflows, direct lending between individuals, and a range of products, all under regulatory oversight (PRA). Its goal is to provide better value loans and investments by making lending and saving more efficient and accessible through technology.

Zopa launches targeted support to help customers grow their money with confidence.

Zopa launches targeted support to help customers grow their money with confidence. Posted On 29 September 2026 Zopa, the British digital bank pioneer with 2 million customers, has launched targeted support for its investment customers. It was the first bank in the UK to receive the regulatory approval to offer the service, bridging the gap between generic guidance and financial advice. The targeted support service process is simple and intuitive. As they onboard to Investments, customers can opt for help choosing an investment fund by answering nine questions that assess their investor type, attitude to risk, confidence in decision-making and response to uncertainty. Based on their responses and how customers with similar profiles have invested, Zopa then recommends a fund suited to their investment profile. Zopa entered the Investments market to help those 15 million Brits who hold excess cash grow their money with confidence using an education-first approach. It offers two ready-made Invesco funds, Balanced and Bold, with a track-record of 5.86% and 10.47% average annual returns respectively*. The funds are managed by Invesco, one of the world's largest investment managers with over $2tn in assets, seamlessly connected to Zopa using Upvest's API infrastructure. Customers can start investing in minutes with as little as £1. Merve Ferrero, Chief Strategy Officer at Zopa Bank, said: "We've seen a persistent gap between people's intention to invest and their confidence to take that first step, even when they have meaningful cash savings. Too many consumers are unsure whether investing is right for them, whether they can make good decisions, or how much risk they should take. Our targeted support service is designed to close that gap, giving first-time investors the confidence and clarity to get started and make their money work harder - with greater peace of mind." The targeted support launch follows an exceptionally strong year for Zopa. The bank announced its third consecutive year of profitability, with pre-tax profits of £65 million for the financial year ending 31 December 2025. Zopa was voted the UK's Best App for 2026 at the British Banks Awards. One of the UK's highest rated and most celebrated financial brands, Zopa has been recognised with over 10 British Bank Awards, holds a Trustpilot rating of 4.6/5, and has one of the highest customer satisfaction scores in the industry.

Zopa launches AI voice banking assistant for payments and transfers

Zopa has launched AI voice banking services for its two million customers, allowing them to manage everyday banking tasks through conversational technology. Current account holders can now use voice commands or chat to send money, settle invoices, and complete transfers by snapping photos of bills and verbally instructing the digital assistant. The technology, built on Zopa's proprietary AI platform and "agentic architecture," can personalise experiences and remember customer preferences. The service aims to reduce manual processes and speed up money management for users of the UK digital bank's savings and current accounts. The rollout follows trials and comes as challenger banks increasingly adopt AI-powered services. Clare Gambardella, Zopa's chief customer officer, said the technology "redefines the role of a bank," helping customers plan, save, and make smarter financial decisions in real time.

Zopa Bank appoints Bruce Fletcher and Paula Walter to its Board.

Zopa Bank appoints Bruce Fletcher and Paula Walter to its Board. Posted On 10 September 2026 Zopa Bank has appointed Bruce Fletcher and Dr Paula Walter as Independent Non-Executive Directors to its Bank and Group Boards. In addition, current Board member Richard Goulding has been appointed Senior Independent Director. The move further strengthens Zopa's governance and technological resilience as the Bank continues its rapid growth across lending, saving, everyday banking, investments and point-of-sale products - underpinned by Zopa's proprietary technology and AI platform. Bruce Fletcher joins Zopa's Risk Committee. He brings deep expertise in risk, compliance and regulation from a career spent leading risk functions at some of the industry's largest banks, both in the UK and the US. Most recently, Bruce was Group Chief Risk Officer at NatWest Group, where he led a 1,700-strong risk and compliance function across the Group's retail, commercial, corporate and investment banking businesses. During his tenure, he redesigned and implemented an enhanced enterprise-wide risk management framework. Bruce is currently a Non-Executive Director and Chair of the Risk Committee at Julius Baer Group, and a Senior Advisor in BCG's Risk & Compliance practice. Earlier in his career, he held senior risk leadership roles at Citibank and at HSBC, including acting as Chief Risk Officer for its global Retail Banking and Wealth Management business. After nine years on the Board, Paul Cutter will step down at the end of the year, with Dr Paula Walter succeeding him as the technology-focused Independent Non-Executive Director on Zopa's Bank and Group Boards. Most recently, Paula served as Chief Technology and Information Officer at specialist lender Aldermore Group from 2022 to 2024 where she led the technology and data strategy, cyber and infrastructure risk remediation. Paula is currently a Non-Executive Director and Chair of the Risk, Audit and Compliance Committee at Brightwell, an FCA-regulated pensions management firm with £36 billion under management. Previously, she held executive roles at Ruffer LLP, Newton Investment Management and Goldman Sachs. Gordon McCallum, Chair of Zopa, said: "Bruce and Paula bring exactly the kind of experience, judgment and constructive challenge that matters as Zopa grows. Bruce has led risk and compliance at the very highest level of UK retail banking, while Paula combines deep technology and cyber expertise with the operational perspective needed to turn ambitious change into dependable outcomes for customers. "Both have worked at the sharp end of transformation in highly regulated environments. Their experience will be invaluable as FinTech BoostUP continue to build Zopa into the Home of Money - a bank that is as trusted as a high street lender, as innovative as a technology company, but offering more value than both. "I also want to thank Paul Cutter for his enormous contribution to Zopa's success over the last 9 years, helping Zopa become one of the UK's most successful growth stories. Paul has been a valued Board colleague, always thoughtful and insightful. In addition to providing support and challenge to the Executive team during a period of huge change as Zopa built its technology infrastructure, he has also continued to participate very effectively in developing our strategic agenda. I wish him well with his other roles and responsibilities". Paul Cutter, Zopa INED said: "It has been a privilege to be part of Zopa's journey and to see the business grow from an ambitious challenger into one of the UK's leading digital banks. I'm incredibly proud of what the team has achieved and confident that Zopa has an exciting future ahead. I wish the whole Zopa team every success for the next chapter." Bruce Fletcher, Zopa INED said: "Zopa has built a distinctive, customer-focused bank with real momentum. I'm delighted to be joining the Board and look forward to working with the team to support the Bank's next phase of growth, while ensuring its strong focus on prudent risk management and good customer outcomes continues." Dr Paula Walter, Zopa INED added: "Zopa has a clear ambition to make money management simpler and better for customers, underpinned by an impressive technology platform and culture. I'm excited to join the Board and help the business continue to innovate responsibly, strengthen its resilience, and deliver exceptional customer experiences at even greater scale, supported by AI-led change and innovation. Zopa's rapidly expanding suite of financial products is matched by strong financial performance. It recently announced its third consecutive year of profitability, with pre-tax profits of £65 million for the financial year ending 31 December 2025. One of the UK's highest-rated and most celebrated financial brands, it has won more than 10 British Bank Awards, holds a 4.6/5 rating on Trustpilot, and consistently receives among the highest customer satisfaction scores in the industry.

Zopa Bank bolsters board with former NatWest and Aldermore executives to drive growth.

Zopa Bank bolsters board with former NatWest and Aldermore executives to drive growth. Zopa Bank has appointed Bruce Fletcher and Dr Paula Walter as Independent Non-Executive Directors to its Bank and Group Boards, while naming Richard Goulding as Senior Independent Director. These high-level appointments bring veteran risk and technology expertise to the digital bank as it scales its lending and savings operations following three consecutive years of profitability. What was announced. The new appointments are designed to bolster Zopa's governance and technological resilience as the firm expands its footprint in lending, savings, everyday banking, and point-of-sale products. Bruce Fletcher joins the Risk Committee, bringing extensive experience from his tenure as Group Chief Risk Officer at NatWest Group. In that role, he managed a 1,700-person risk and compliance function across retail, commercial, and investment banking. Fletcher's background also includes senior risk leadership positions at Citibank and HSBC, and he currently serves as a Non-Executive Director and Chair of the Risk Committee at Julius Baer Group. Dr Paula Walter will succeed Paul Cutter as the technology-focused Independent Non-Executive Director at the end of the year. Walter was most recently the Chief Technology and Information Officer at Aldermore Group, where she oversaw data strategy and cyber risk remediation. Her career includes executive roles at Goldman Sachs, Ruffer LLP, and Newton Investment Management. She currently chairs the Risk, Audit and Compliance Committee at Brightwell, a firm managing £36 billion in pension assets. These leadership changes follow a period of strong financial performance for Zopa. The bank recently reported pre-tax profits of £65 million for the financial year ending 31 December 2025. This growth is supported by a proprietary technology and AI platform that powered Zopa to win the "UK's Best App" at the 2026 British Bank Awards. The bank currently maintains a 4.6/5 rating on Trustpilot, reflecting its focus on customer satisfaction alongside its rapid scaling. "Bruce and Paula bring exactly the kind of experience, judgment and constructive challenge that matters as Zopa grows. Bruce has led risk and compliance at the very highest level of UK retail banking, while Paula combines deep technology and cyber expertise with the operational perspective needed to turn ambitious change into dependable outcomes for customers." The companies involved. Zopa Bank is a prominent fixture in the UK fintech landscape, having successfully transitioned from its origins as a peer-to-peer lending pioneer into a fully licensed digital bank. The institution has established itself as a major competitor to traditional high street lenders by leveraging a proprietary technology stack and an AI-driven approach to credit and customer service. Unlike many of its early-stage peers, Zopa has achieved sustained profitability, marking a significant milestone in the maturity of the UK neobanking sector. The bank's market position is defined by its "Home of Money" strategy, which aims to consolidate various financial services - from credit cards and personal loans to car finance and savings - into a single digital ecosystem. By recruiting board members with backgrounds at Tier 1 institutions like NatWest and Goldman Sachs, Zopa is aligning its internal oversight with the standards of the largest global financial groups. This move signals a focus on institutional-grade risk management and infrastructure as the bank moves beyond its initial growth phase into a more complex, multi-product operational environment. What FF News has reported before. FF News has closely followed Zopa's evolution, documenting its transition into a diversified financial services provider. In late 2025, the bank made waves in the savings market by launching a market-leading 4.75% easy access savings product, a move that intensified competition among digital and traditional lenders. The bank's commitment to operational expansion was also highlighted when Zopa Bank set out Manchester growth ambitions alongside Mayor Andy Burnham, signaling a push for talent outside the London hub. More recently, Zopa has focused on enhancing its customer service through strategic integrations, such as when Zopa Bank partnered with NotifyNOW to simplify bereavement notifications. Additionally, the bank's technological edge was noted in a report on how leading European financial services firms deliver impact with OpenAI, underscoring Zopa's early adoption of generative AI to drive efficiency and customer outcomes. What this means. The appointment of heavy-hitting executives from NatWest and Goldman Sachs marks the end of the "challenger" era for Zopa and the beginning of its life as a mature incumbent-lite institution. By bringing in a former Group CRO and a CTIO with deep cyber expertise, Zopa is addressing the primary concerns of modern regulators: operational resilience and risk oversight in an AI-driven environment. This move puts pressure on other neobanks to prove their governance is as sophisticated as their user interfaces. The industry question now is whether this traditional-style board oversight will temper the agility that allowed Zopa to outpace high street rivals, or if it will provide the stable foundation necessary for even larger-scale market disruption.
