Requirements
- Demonstrated hands-on experience developing and operating backend services and APIs in production, including personal responsibility for the work and the ability to explain its operation and design.
- Experience designing REST APIs, including resources, endpoints, versioning, validation, error handling, authentication, and role-based authorization.
- Practical production experience with AWS and understanding of service deployment, environment promotion, security, and operations.
- Functional knowledge of infrastructure as code, including reading CloudFormation templates or CDK/Terraform modules and understanding the controlled plan/preview/deploy cycle.
- Experience with at least one of C#/.NET, Node.js, or Python as a primary backend language.
- Experience with relational databases and ideally NoSQL databases, including optimized queries, transactions, and indexes.
- Experience implementing robust error handling, structured logging, and traceability.
- Ability to write and maintain unit and integration tests.
- Knowledge and application of at least one design pattern or architecture: Clean Architecture, Layered/N-tier Architecture, or Onion Architecture.
- Ability to structure clean, maintainable code with clear separation of responsibilities, descriptive naming, appropriate placement of business logic, and explicit error handling.
- Backend security knowledge, including input validation, authentication and authorization, secure handling of credentials and secrets, and basic OWASP Top 10 risks.
- Practical experience with AWS Lambda, including triggers, service integrations, timeouts, and errors; API Gateway; S3; DynamoDB or RDS; and IAM roles, policies, and least-privilege access.
- Understanding of basic AWS cloud security, secure service access through roles, protection of exposed APIs, and secure secrets management.
- Understanding of frontend API integration sufficient to design backend services for React/Next.js consumers, including response structures, headers, HTTP errors, fetch/axios calls, basic state refresh, hooks, form validation responsibilities, and endpoint protection.
- Ability to work autonomously, make and explain technical decisions, evaluate trade-offs, and discuss production incidents and their prevention.
- Clear, structured communication and ability to explain concrete technical work.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate production backend services in a corporate AWS environment.
- Build backend services for consumption by React/Next.js applications, ensuring clear response structures, validations, integration contracts, and error handling.
- Develop and deploy APIs and services, from endpoint definition through production deployment.
- Apply sound backend design, security, coding, and architecture practices in production.
- Make technical decisions about service and infrastructure choices, including Lambda versus containers and relational versus NoSQL databases.
- Identify, respond to, and prevent production incidents.
- Ensure code is ready for automated quality and security checks and corporate audit during promotion between environments.
