Here’s the opportunity: Business Development Manager

The Business Development Manager will represent Futurpreneur and promote its financing and mentoring programs for young entrepreneurs and partners. You will collaborate and foster strong partnerships with key partners, resulting in new client engagement and loan portfolio growth in communities across Vancouver regions.

This existing role is a full-time, permanent role based in Vancouver. The incumbent will work on a hybrid work model, requiring a minimum of 1 day in-office, per week. This role will require frequent travel within the region and with at times travel to remote areas.

What you will do:

Business Development – Entrepreneurs

Convert entrepreneurial leads from inquiry through to application stage of our process
Identify and ensure rigorous follow-up on high-potential prospects via our customer relationship management system.
Attend and coordinate events that provide opportunities to engage prospective and current entrepreneurs
Facilitate presentations and workshops that promote Futurpreneur programs and support entrepreneurial skill development.
Assist other programs and regions, as and when required.
Work in collaboration with Client Relationship Managers (CRM) to ensure a smooth transition of applicant to funding stage.
Create lead generation opportunities across region, while collaborating with existing and new partners

Business Development – Mentors

Attend and coordinate events that provide the opportunity to engage prospective mentors.
Manage prospective mentor inquiries regarding mentoring program and application process.
Communicate with CRM regarding fulfilling mentor gaps.
Recruit mentors to achieve the region's objectives and ensure adequate mentor support for our entrepreneurs
Coordinate events as required that offer the opportunity to recruit new volunteer mentors

Business Development – Strategic Partners & Referral Partners

Connect with strategic and referral partners on a regular basis to keep Futurpreneur top of mind to their staff, and maintain relationships
Be in regular contact and maintain good relationships with Futurpreneur's partners to bring entrepreneurs to a loan approval stage.
Facilitate partner onboarding; train new and retrain existing partners and ensure they are fully aware of Futurpreneur processes
Follow-up with partners to make sure they have all the tools and information they need to represent us well with their customers.
Manage relationship with referral partners, as well as grow the number of partners if and where appropriate.
Participate as required in the activities of partners in the ecosystem to engage community partners and recruit entrepreneurs in search of financing and mentorship.
Coordinate events that offer the opportunity to engage Futurpreneur partners, as required.
Identify potential partners through research, events, networks and referrals

Requirements

What will you bring:

Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle (40% of this role includes local and provincial travel).
Relevant experience may include education with a focus on business administration, economic development, entrepreneurship or equivalent hands-on career experience.
3+ years of experience in sales, start-up business development or economic development position.
Bilingualism in French & English (spoken & written) is an asset.
Experience working with entrepreneurs or business startups, business plans and cashflows is considered a strong asset.
Ability to tailor and deliver public program presentations and workshops.
Proficient computer skills; experience with a Customer Relationship Management system is required (MS-365)
Strong client focus with the ability to work with volunteers.
Confident, proactive and motivated, able to work with a minimum of supervision.
Strong ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Knowledge of trends within the entrepreneurial, startup, small business industry.
General administration experience including budget management, report writing, etc.
Clear and confident communicator, skilled at engaging and connecting with diverse audiences.
Collaborative and adaptable team player, bringing a proactive, solutions-focused mindset.
Strong organizational skills, able to balance multiple priorities effectively in a dynamic hybrid work environment.
Demonstrate curiosity and a growth mindset, embracing and championing change.

Futurpreneur | August 13, 2026 From international partnerships to global growth opportunities, Toronto was at the centre of the conversation as entrepreneurial leaders from across the G20 gathered for the G20 Young Entrepreneurs Alliance (G20 YEA) Leadership Assembly. Hosted by Futurpreneur, the Assembly brought together leaders from around the world to strengthen relationships, exchange ideas and help shape the future of youth entrepreneurship. The G20 YEA is a global network representing more than 500,000 young entrepreneurs and the organizations that support them. As a proud founding member of the Alliance, Futurpreneur represents Canadian entrepreneurship on the world stage and works alongside international partners to advance policies and initiatives that help young entrepreneurs succeed. As part of the preparations for Vienna, Futurpreneur was honoured to host the G20 YEA Leadership Assembly, welcoming leaders from Brazil, China, Germany, the European Union, Japan, Mexico and the United Kingdom for four days of collaboration, planning and knowledge sharing. Throughout the Assembly, Presidents and Sherpas participated in working sessions, networking events and discussions focused on entrepreneurship, innovation, international growth and economic opportunity. The week began with a call with Shawn Steil, the G7/G20 Sous-Sherpa & Director of G7/G20 Summits, Global Affairs Canada. He shared his perspectives on the current dynamics surrounding the upcoming Summits and provided recommendations on how its thought leadership could be taken into greater consideration. The call was followed by an interactive panel discussion on global perspectives on youth entrepreneurship and economic growth featuring Ontario's Associate Minister of Small Business, Nina Tangri, alongside ecosystem leaders Futurpreneur CEO Karen Greve Young, Miryam Lazarte, CEO of Global Startups, and Steven Wang, CEO of Venture for Canada. A recurring theme throughout the week was how entrepreneurial ecosystems can better support young founders in navigating an increasingly complex and rapidly evolving global economy. Discussions explored trade diversification, market expansion, investment attraction and the practical resources young entrepreneurs need to grow beyond their home markets. Conversations reinforced the importance of collaboration among governments, ecosystem organizations and entrepreneurs to unlock new opportunities for innovation and growth. The Assembly also provided an opportunity to showcase Ontario's vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem. On July 22, hosted by representatives Eric Chou and Mark Rupcic from Niagara Region Economic Development, the leaders visited Brock University in Niagara, where they met Forzana Crocco, Executive Director, and Tamara Jensen, Entrepreneurship Program Manager from Brock LINC, an innovation and entrepreneurship centre that supports research commercialization, startup development and industry collaboration. Katie Poissant-Paul, Marketing & Operations Executive at Innovate Niagara also presented to the group. Leaders also toured the Niagara Falls Innovation Hub, hosted by CEO Dan Bordenave, gaining firsthand insight into the programs, resources and partnerships helping entrepreneurs launch and scale their businesses in the region. The visit highlighted the strength of Niagara region's innovation ecosystem while offering participants the chance to experience one of Canada's most iconic destinations. Most importantly, the week reminded Futurpreneur that while countries may face different challenges, young entrepreneurs around the world share many of the same ambitions: to build innovative businesses, create jobs, strengthen their communities and drive positive economic impact. Ontario investing $6 million to support young entrepreneurs. Funding will provide nearly 1,000 young entrepreneurs with the tools and support needed to launch and expand their businesses June 22, 2026 Table of contents. TORONTO - The Ontario government is making it easier for young people to start and grow businesses across the province by investing an additional $6 million in Futurpreneur. The funding will give nearly 1,000 entrepreneurs between the ages of 18 to 39 access to financing, one-on-one mentorship, networking opportunities and business planning tools to grow their businesses and create jobs. As part of the province's plan to protect Ontario, this investment will support more than 3,800 future jobs and help drive long-term economic growth and competitiveness across the province. "Investing in Ontario's young talent and the next generation of business leaders is key to securing a more competitive and resilient economy today and for the years to come," said Nina Tangri, Associate Minister of Small Business. "Through our continued partnership with Futurpreneur, our government is reducing the barrier to capital for young entrepreneurs. This investment will better equip young people to turn their ideas into reality, bring Ontario-made products to the market, create local jobs and protect Ontario's economy." Futurpreneur is a national not-for-profit organization that connects aspiring business owners with collateral-free loans of up to $75,000, and two years of mentorship and business resources. Through its flagship Core Startup Program, the organization supports entrepreneurs aged 18 to 39 and has helped start and grow more than 1,700 businesses, creating over 7,300 jobs across Ontario. As Futurpreneur marks its 30th anniversary this year, this investment brings the province's total support for the organization to $15 million since 2021. "This investment will ensure that hundreds of young entrepreneurs can access the financing, mentorship and resources they need to launch or buy successful businesses that will create jobs and strengthen local communities across the province," said Karen Greve Young, CEO of Futurpreneur. Small business, big Impact: Visa selects Futurpreneur as exclusive Canadian non-profit partner. Futurpreneur | May 19, 2026 Artwork by: Rafael Mayani, a Mexican artist based in Vancouver, BC Futurpreneur is thrilled to have been selected as Visa's only Canadian non-profit partner for 'Tap In to Impact,' a global program that will extend the energy of the highly anticipated international soccer tournament beyond the pitch and into the local communities that will help bring it to life. As part of this initiative, Visa is contributing $275,000 CAD to Futurpreneur to expand its support for young entrepreneurs, mentors and community-builders across Canada, an exciting partnership that comes during a landmark year for Futurpreneur, as Futurpreneur Canada celebrate 30 years of inclusive impact. "Tap In to Impact reinforces the vital role small businesses play in building vibrant, strong, connected communities," said Karen Greve Young, CEO of Futurpreneur. "As we celebrate Futurpreneur's 30th anniversary, this partnership with Visa is especially meaningful, as it will enable us to empower even more young entrepreneurs with the loan financing, mentorship and resources they need to turn ambition into action and build thriving businesses with confidence." Through Tap In to Impact, Visa is committing $200,000 USD to one non-profit partner in each host country of the soccer tournament ($600,000 USD total) to support their work with small businesses and entrepreneurs. Along with Futurpreneur in Canada, Visa is partnering with Pro Mujer, a non-profit supporting women microentrepreneurs across Latin America and Mexico, and Score Association, America's largest network of volunteer business mentors. The goal of the campaign is to provide donations that drive practical, market-relevant support for small businesses.
