Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • East St. Louis reopened in August 2026 as the 27th one-stop-shop DMV.
  • The office keeps shipping modernization, including Apple Wallet IDs and Court of Claims e-filing.
  • Illinois' scale gives stable demand for licenses, registrations, business filings, and records.

What critics are saying

  • FIRE sued Giannoulias in January 2026 over Illinois' Democrat-name nonprofit restriction.
  • Digital IDs still require physical backups, limiting adoption and preserving DMV congestion.
  • If Giannoulias leaves for Chicago mayor, 2027 leadership uncertainty will disrupt modernization momentum.

What makes Illinois Secretary of State unique
