Responsibilities
  • Deliver quality psychiatric care to patients hospitalized with psychiatric or emotional disorders.
  • Provide direct patient care to patients with emotional or psychiatric disorders.
  • Support the therapeutic milieu and ensure patient safety and well-being.
  • Serve as a role model for Mental Health Technicians and provide on-the-job training to newly hired staff.
  • Orient patients to the unit, take admission vital signs, and record them on the Nursing Assessment Form.
  • Escort patients to activities, visitation, meals, and scheduled tests while completing counts and ensuring rounds sheets accompany patients.
  • Maintain the therapeutic milieu, enforcing the level system or other behavior-management methods.
  • Assist with patient restraints and place patients in seclusion under the direction of the registered nurse, using SAMA techniques and following policies and procedures.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living according to their treatment plans, needs, age, and developmental level.
  • Complete safety rounds on time, visually observe patients using Visible Hand, enter all rooms, and observe sleeping patients' chest rise and fall at least three times.
  • Perform handoff with incoming and outgoing shifts, round together, verify patient location and safety, and initial the round sheet.
  • Uphold the organization's ethics and customer service standards and perform related duties as requested.
