J.Crew's AI ad glitch wasn't a tech failure. It was a process failure. J.Crew, Shein, and Skechers all got publicly dragged this year for AI ad campaigns with visible glitches, distorted hands, garbled text, the kind of mistake that's obvious the moment you actually look at it. These aren't small operations. They have massive budgets and full creative teams. If their process missed it, a smaller team's process probably will too, unless something changes deliberately. What actually went wrong. It wasn't the AI tool. AI image and ad generation has known failure patterns, and they're well documented at this point. What failed was the absence of a human checkpoint before publish. Somewhere between generation and going live, nobody looked closely enough, or nobody was assigned to. These brands didn't get caught using AI. They got caught publishing AI output without a final, deliberate check. Why "they have more resources" Is the wrong lesson. It's tempting to read these stories and conclude that bigger brands are somehow more exposed, or that resources don't protect you. They don't, but not because resources don't matter. They don't protect you because a documented review process is a different thing entirely, and it's available to a one-person studio just as much as it is to a global brand with a full creative department. Budget buys you tools and people. It doesn't automatically buy you a checkpoint. That has to be built on purpose.
Press release: new Skechers European Distribution Center. Summary: Skechers is set to complete construction of its new 230,000-square-meter European Distribution Center near Liège Airport in Belgium in August 2026, marking a major investment in the company's long-term European growth strategy. The state-of-the-art facility will replace its nearby Milmort distribution center while retaining the existing workforce and creating additional opportunities in the Wallonia region. Designed to achieve BREEAM Excellence certification, the highly automated warehouse will incorporate advanced intralogistics technology from KNAPP to improve efficiency across the entire supply chain, from receiving goods to order fulfillment and shipping for both B2B and direct-to-consumer operations. Installation of the automation systems will begin immediately after construction is completed, with the first operational phase expected by the end of 2028. Skechers said the new logistics hub will increase capacity, improve service levels, support anticipated demand growth across Europe, and provide the foundation for the company's distribution network over the next two decades. "This next-generation warehouse designed in consultation with the Skechers team and VanLooy Group supports the next step to set the future of Skechers' operation throughout Europe," said Oliver Lehner, vice president of Partner & Products Solutions at KNAPP. "A deep level of integration of broad automated processes and the high performance capable of handling very large volumes will ensure excellent service to Skechers customers B2C and B2B." PRS for Music has officially announced Ben McOwen Wilson as its next CEO; the former Google Play and Television EMEA managing director is expected to take the reins on October 12th. As some will recognize, this appears to represent an accelerated succession timetable. In March, PRS indicated that outgoing CEO Andrea Czapary Martin, her decision to step away having been "reached in agreement with the PRS Members' Council," would depart "at the end of 2026." In a statement, Wilson described PRS' "most urgent priority" as "protecting the integrity and value of human creativity." Additionally, the longtime YouTube higher-up, who until early 2026 also served on the Creative Industries Council, said his "first priority will be to listen and learn." That approach seems wise. On one hand, Martin's roughly seven-year tenure brought significant collections and distributions growth. On the other hand, the period wasn't without challenges for PRS, among them Blur drummer David Rowntree's "black box" lawsuit; a different complaint from songwriters; and related admin-rate criticism from Paul McCartney, Elton John, and Thom Yorke. Meanwhile, Wilson's tech experience is worth keeping in mind amid AI's rise, about which nearly 80% of UK musicians have concerns, per a PRS survey. So is the possibility that the same experience, plus the plans "to listen and learn," may set the stage for a long-overdue music-monitoring overhaul. Universal music group. Universal hires Tseyin Foo as President, Global Supply Chain to 'strengthen the global capabilities powering UMG's next phase of growth' July 23, 2026 Universal Music Group has appointed Tseyin Foo as President, Global Supply Chain. Foo will report to Boyd Muir, UMG's Chief Operating Officer, and will be based in Los Angeles, the company said on Thursday (July 23). According to Universal, the former Skechers and Nike executive will "strengthen the global capabilities powering UMG's next phase of growth". In the role, Foo will lead UMG's global supply chain across the company's digital partnerships, direct-to-consumer channels, physical formats, merchandise, and other consumer products, according to UMG. UMG said the appointment will support the continued expansion of its artist and label services business following Virgin Music Group's acquisition of Downtown, completed in February. Virgin Music Group is UMG's independent distribution and artist-services division. The press release announcing Foo's appointment explains that the exec "will help enable the company to better serve its artists, songwriters, labels, and partners, while supporting the continued expansion of its artist and label services business following Virgin Music Group's acquisition of Downtown and the ongoing evolution of UMG's merchandise and direct to consumer capabilities". Foo joins UMG from Skechers, where she served as Head of Global Supply Chain Planning & Strategy. In that role, according to UMG, she built the company's global strategy and planning function and led sourcing, manufacturing and technology initiatives. She previously spent five years at Nike in leadership roles, and earlier held senior positions at VF Corporation across Timberland, Vans and 7 For All Mankind. "As we continue to create more opportunities for growth throughout the music ecosystem, it's increasingly important that we operate as one global organization with greater speed, flexibility, and precision." Boyd Muir "As we continue to create more opportunities for growth throughout the music ecosystem, it's increasingly important that we operate as one global organization with greater speed, flexibility, and precision," said Boyd Muir. Added Muir: "Tseyin brings a rare combination of strategic leadership, operational excellence, and technology expertise that will help us deliver greater impact at greater scale, driving even more value for artists, songwriters, labels and entrepreneurs around the world." "I'm excited to join UMG at such an important moment in its evolution." Tseyin Foo Tseyin Foo added: "I'm excited to join UMG at such an important moment in its evolution. "As the company continues to expand its global platform, there is a tremendous opportunity to use technology, data and world class execution to build even stronger capabilities that help our labels and teams move faster, adapt more quickly, and create more value for artists, partners, and fans around the world." Boyd Muir was promoted to Chief Operating Officer of UMG in October 2024, and reports to Chairman and CEO Sir Lucian Grainge. Grainge highlighted the D2C opportunity on the company's Q4 earnings call in March, telling analysts that UMG's "own D2C business has grown to 1,600 online stores and generates hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue". He added that, "This only scratched the surface of our potential". Grainge explained further: "We will further scale our D2C business by stimulating an entire category of third-party superfan platforms, each with its own distinctive approach and model. "These will operate alongside the premium tiers being developed by the traditional DSPs as well as what we're creating and how we're creating an ecosystem in which special events, experiences and products will entice superfans in both the virtual and physical worlds." On the company's Q3 earnings call back in October, Boyd Muir revealed that "somewhere in the region of two-thirds to 75%" of vinyl sales are now coming through UMG's own managed stores. According to Luminate's 2025 Year-End Report, direct-to-consumer channels drove 78% of first-week physical album sales in Pop in the US last year, and over 50% in R&B/Hip-Hop and Rock. UMG's physical revenues grew 11.4% YoY at constant currency to €1.475 billion ($1.66bn) in its full-year 2025 results. Its Merchandising and Other revenue was €811 million ($911.2m) for the year, flat YoY at constant currency (down 3.7% in reported euros).Music Business Worldwide
