About the job

Requirements
  • Strong professional experience building and operating production systems; the posting says this usually means several years in the field, but specifies no numeric minimum.
  • Real distributed-systems instincts, including race conditions, retries, idempotency, backpressure, cancellation, and partial failure.
  • Experience owning the reliability of a production system, including responding to pages, debugging with metrics, logs, and traces, and fixing root causes.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure and deployment, including continuous integration and continuous delivery, containers, and safe shipping and rollback on platforms such as Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, or Microsoft Azure.
  • Deep proficiency in a statically typed language. TypeScript is used daily, and strong Go, Rust, or a similar language is acceptable if willing to become proficient in TypeScript quickly. Uses type systems to make invalid states unrepresentable rather than relying on escape hatches such as any or unsafe casts.
  • Daily experience building with AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor, and clear opinions about their limitations and the supporting systems they need.
  • Comfort working across the stack, including building interfaces for people supervising agents as well as backend and infrastructure work.
  • High standards for readable, maintainable code and low tolerance for needless complexity.
Responsibilities
  • Build the runtime agents use, including isolated sessions on on-demand cloud machines, warm pools, sandboxed browsers, and tightly scoped access to the credentials and portals needed for each job.
  • Evolve the workflow that takes a problem from initial report through investigation, root cause analysis, code change, automated review, human approval, deployment, and verification against real production business outcomes.
  • Own deployment and versioning so workflow changes can ship in under a minute, run exactly the code they were built with, and roll back cleanly without supervision.
  • Build observability for the autonomous system, including metrics, alerting, dashboards as code, execution traces, and provenance connecting each result to its producing build.
  • Build command-line interfaces, application programming interfaces, and error messages that enable agents to diagnose problems without human translation.
  • Keep long-running distributed workflows correct under failure by making them idempotent, resumable, bounded, and safe to replay across deployments.
  • Build interfaces for people supervising agents, including approval queues, code review, and live views of running processes.
  • Operate production systems by debugging incidents, writing postmortems, and fixing classes of problems rather than isolated instances.
  • Work directly with the chief technology officer to establish engineering standards for the team, including human and agent contributors.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with a strictly typed functional style, including algebraic data types, discriminated unions, exhaustive matching, state represented as explicit values, and separating pure logic from side effects; experience with languages such as Haskell, OCaml, F#, Rust, or Scala counts.
  • Experience with durable execution or workflow orchestration, such as Temporal.
  • Experience building internal developer platforms, build and release systems, or continuous integration and delivery infrastructure relied on by other engineers.
  • Experience operating fleets of containers or virtual machines, including pooling, autoscaling, and graceful rollouts.
  • Experience with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry.
  • Experience building production large language model agents, including tool design, evaluation, or guardrails.
  • Experience in regulated or security-sensitive domains such as healthcare or fintech, including handling sensitive data.
  • Based in Los Angeles or ready to relocate there.

About the company

Docflow Labs builds an AI-powered outsourcing platform that automates back-office operations for DME/HME providers. It partners with operators to convert their manual processes into deterministic, auditable software automations instead of relying on generic prompts. The platform handles tasks such as patient intake, prior authorization packet preparation, document triage, and submitting to payers, with HIPAA compliance and full observability including logs, screenshots, and audit trails. A key feature is self-healing, allowing the system to adapt to changes in payer portals and rules while maintaining high accuracy. The company differentiates itself by emphasizing rule-based, auditable automation rather than purely generative AI, offering a 30-day pilot with a money-back guarantee to prove value. Its goal is to improve operational efficiency and reduce order cycle times so staff can focus on patient-facing work and exception handling rather than routine admin tasks.
